On December 2nd, the Austrian Association for Betting and Gambling has become the newest member of the European Gaming and Betting Association to benefit from their vast experience of other European markets and knowledge of EU law and procedures.

The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) announced that the Austrian Association for Betting and Gambling (OVWG) become its third affiliate member after Gibraltar and Sweden. “There is too much legal uncertainty with the current regime in Austria for many years,” described the state of online gambling in Austria, president of the OVWG, Claus Retschitzegger. The OVWG hopes to benefit from the legal experience for the “enactment of a new, fair and modern regulation for online gambling in Austria.

Maarten Haijer, Scretary General of EGBA commented:

“It is puzzling that even Austria, where so many successful online operators originate from, still has no online gambling regulation in place that fits with the realities of the digital economy and online consumer behavior.”
