Another Record Breaking Edition of the World Series of Poker in 2014

The organizers of the World Series of Poker compiled and released the overall statistics of the 45th edition of the WSOP, announcing that another record was broken.

This year’s edition of the most awaited poker tournament broke another record regarding the number of entrants to different events. The starting day registrations to the three main events are already closed, therefore the organizers managed to calculate the totals for the whole tournament, which is taking place since June.

Extraordinary figures

WSOP 2014 is a record-breaking edition

• With 82,360 competition entrants
• Total prize pools of $225,584,273
• And main event prize pool of $62,820,200
The numbers are definitely impressive and made it to the gambling news immediately – 82,360 competition entrants from 107 nations in 65 events, comprising total prize pools of the fabulous $225,584,273.The number of entries this year is bit above 3.5% more than last year’s 79,471 players.

The main event prize pool alone went up to $62,820,200, formed by the $10,000 buy-ins from 6,683 entries. Therefore, the big winner will take home the fantastic $10 million and almost all the other nine finalists will receive seven figure pay-outs.

Ty Stewart, World Series of Poker Executive Director, commented: “With some of the biggest events ever organized it is clear poker remains strong and its best days are ahead.”

Other statistics

As always, there are again significantly more male than female players, with 94.72% men at an average age of around 39 years.

Despite the incredible main event first prize, which is not won yet, the average first place prize in 2014 was $792,507, but one detail definitely has to be mentioned as it affects the amount drastically – Dan Colman won$15.3 million in the $1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop.

A total of 8,730 players claimed cash prizes in the 65 events, which makes it around 10% of all players, who demonstrated their skills acquired in American poker rooms and elsewhere, while taking part in various competitions.

It is interesting to mention that currently the total prize pool for all WSOPs in the history of the tournament just hit $2 billion and more than $5.2 million was raised for “One Drop clean water” charity. Also, the youngest player this year was Zachary Zaffos (21 years and 1 day) as oppose to the oldest, William Wachter (93 years).

Additionally, players from fifty US states took part in events and in general US players so far had been performing extremely well and have claimed 52 of the 64 WSOP winner bracelets awarded till now.

Moreover, the largest single day attendance this year was 7,977 players at the $1,500 buy-in Millionaire Maker and also the 2014 senior event was the biggest ever with 4,425 players.

Last but not least, 2014 main event attracted 6,683 players, which is 331 entrants more than in 2013, when the main event registrations were 6,352.
