Many talented horses like Hans Holbein appeared on the American racetracks in 2015.
After Hans Holbein won the Chester Vase the owner couldn’t be happier. Kevin Buckley compared the talented colt’s new championship to a surprise holiday present. The superb young horse from Aidan O’Brien yard has proven all of his doubters wrong. Buckley also talked about how horseracing is as risky as playing the Turkish lottery in a way that sometimes you get the total opposite of what you expected.

Hans Holbein keeps winning

Although the last few years winners and the favorites of the world of internet betting in the US were all bred by O’Brien’s Ballydoyle stable, it is not natural that it is always going to be like that. It is a long and uncertain way from the foals’ birth to the selection of the best. Sometimes the young horses show great potential and background on foal auctions and by the time they come to age it is just not there anymore. However as all owners and trainers know very well this is part of buying a horse. It is a big moment for the 3-year-olds to finally have the chance to show their potentials.

• Hans Holbein runs for the Derby
• Maverick Wave is stronger than ever
• Ted Walsh’s name was cleared

On the other hand it puts a great amount of pressure on the owner to see if he made the right choice. Some horses like Ruler Of The World who won the Vase two years ago and then the Derby too, seem to be proving their buyers right. Hans Holbein got qualified for the Derby on June 6 with his win of the prestigious Vase. His odds on online sportsbooks in the US are said to be 26.00(25/1). It was not only a great surprise but a huge victory with beating Storm The Stars by a quarter length. The result is outstanding as it is but considering that this was only his fourth start it is truly spectacular.

Head to head battle between the 4-year-olds

Highland Reel
The jockey Ryan Moore sees a great future ahead of the 3-year-old colt. He said pulling him up after the race was a real challenge which really puts the talented horse to Derby perspective. “We’re fortunate to have a large stable of very well-bred animals but until you get them to their trials you don’t know what you’ve got for sure, so it’s very much a learning curve at the moment for the horses and for us” Buckley told the press. The final list of horses qualified for the trip to Epsom will not be released for another ten days. There is still a great amount of young colts fighting to reach the top list and earn their places on the event.

Buckley expects Highland Reel to perform well in the French 2,000 Guineas on Sunday. He also suggested keeping an eye out for John F Kennedy and Kilimanjaro who will run at the Lingfield Derby Trial on Saturday. Another interesting talent is Cannock Chase who entered Group One with titles like the Price of Wales’s Stakes and the Eclipse. The extraordinary colt was in the top ten favorites to win the Group Huxley Stakes but was defeated by Maverick Wave gambling news reported. The 4-year-old champion came back strong after the winter season leaving no chance to loosing. “John has brought this horse along nicely and he’s going from strength to strength. I’m sure there’s more to come from him [and] something at [Royal] Ascot will have to be considered” said the world famous Norwegian-born flat jockey, William Buick.

The rumors about Ted Walsh the lead trainer of the Irish Turf Club have been spreading since December. The star strainer was pointed a finger on for Foxrock’s poor performance at the Punchestown race in December. However he was cleared of all “charges” since it was confirmed by the Club that the horse lost both front horseshoes while running. That is a common and understandable explanation for a less successful run. The case was reopened when evidence came to light showing Foxrock with all four horseshoes after the race but it was dismissed.
