Havas Worldwide Johannesburg Team Creates Fascinating Art Showing the Effects of Gambling Addictions

Dice art pieces were crafted by Havas Worldwide Johannesburg in order to raise awareness of the consequences of serious gambling addictions.

Eoin Welsh, executive creative director at Havas WW Johannesburg, commented for the gambling news: “This idea was proactively generated by our team and then created in cooperation with the National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP).”

Welsh said: “This was an absolutely massive undertaking, involving painstaking building of these images one dice at a time,” as every art piece consists of 6,048 dice, each of them manually and individually thrust.

He added that only two people could work at the same time on each piece and stressed on the fact that this initiative is extremely important for the agency, due to the fact that most people are completely unaware of the seriousness of gambling addictions.

Problem addressed

Welsh explained: “Addictions to drugs and alcohol always seem to be put under the spotlight. Gambling is a very serious problem in its own right, and the repercussions of this move far beyond the money one might lose.”

Moreover: “This addiction puts ones family and whole life at risk, and we are proud to be able to use this project to create some much needed awareness and talkability around this subject.”

These art installations are displayed in various public places in the city and they not only make regular citizens think about the problem, but also hint that eventual change in South African gambling laws is necessary, so that less people are exposed to problem gambling practices.
