With the fight likely taking place sometime in the next six months, it’s now the perfect time to break down a few of the most likely McGregor vs. Mayweather scenarios.

On May 18th, it was reported that UFC superstar Conor McGregor officially signed the contract to fight Floyd Mayweather inside the boxing ring. It remains to be seen whether Floyd will agree to the terms set by Dana White, but there’s no denying that this fight is now closer than ever to taking place.

A number of online sportsbooks in Ireland are now offering betting odds for this fight. Everyone knows McGregor is the massive underdog, but he’s proven time and time again that he can defy the odds. Now we’ll take a look at three of the most likely McGregor vs. Mayweather scenarios when they finally face off.

Mayweather wins a unanimous decision: 5/4

Even the most hardcore McGregor fans have to concede that he’s not nearly as skilled in pure boxing as Floyd Mayweather. Floyd has a professional record of 49-0, and has fought some of the best boxers alive including Canelo Alvarez, Andre Berto, and Manny Pacquiao. His offense his sharp, but Mayweather has made a career of avoiding his opponents strikes and countering.

McGregor vs. Mayweather odds

  • Conor McGregor: 6/1
  • Floyd Mayweather: 1/10
  • Draw: 33/1

For this reason, one of the most likely McGregor vs. Mayweather scenarios is Floyd winning a clear decision using his defensive skills and pinpoint accuracy. He hasn’t finished an opponent since 2011, and despite his superior skill set, it seems unlikely that he will put Conor away with a KO.

Most boxing betting experts seem to agree with this prediction. At the moment, Paddy Power lists Mayweather’s odds to win a decision at 5/4.

Conor knocks Floyd out early: 40/1

Alright, this might not be one of the most likely McGregor vs. Mayweather scenarios, but with the power that Conor has it’s not impossible to imagine. Of his 21 wins in MMA, 18 have come by way of KO or TKO. This punching power was on full display against Jose Aldo, who McGregor stopped just 13 seconds into the fight with a perfectly placed left cross.

For Conor to KO Floyd, it seems like he’ll need to pressure early. As the rounds progress, Mayweather’s experience will likely take over, but if Conor can push Floyd against the ropes and time one of his patented left crosses, he may very well make Irish gambling news with one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.

Conor’s odds to KO Floyd in the first round are set at 50/1. His odds to get the stoppage in the 2nd through 5th round are at 40/1, according to Paddy Power.

Mayweather stops Conor in the later rounds: 12/1

As we said before, the most likely McGregor vs. Mayweather scenario is for Floyd to win a decision, but it’s also quite possible that his offense increases in the later rounds and he earns a stoppage victory. We saw Conor fade in the first Nate Diaz fight, and if Floyd can drag the Irishman into deep water late in the fight it’s possible he’ll get a KO or TKO.

For this scenario to take place, Floyd will need to attack the body early and often. Conor said after the first fight with Nate that he was hurt to the body, and if Floyd can do the same he will open up more opportunities to attack the head as the fight progresses. At the moment, Floyd’s odds to KO Conor between the 6th and 10th rounds are set at 12/1.
