Italian online gambling scene gets another newcomer as Interwetten sportsbook joins the growing number of sites

Italy has been frequently in the news lately, sometimes negatively after they refused licenses to several top online gambling sites unjustifiably.

Following their subsequent reprimand by the European Court, the Italian gambling laws have been broadened to such an extent that now hundreds of online gambling sites are vying for a license in the popular gambling country. Interwetten is the latest site to join that ever expanding list.

Interwetten is a little known online sportsbook, with an online casino, live casino and a range of skill games and scratch cards to boot. The twenty two year old company aims to change their little known status amongst the big players of the online sports betting scene by hosting nine languages on its site, and announcing a sparkling new sponsorship deal.

Joining the ranks of the larger online sportsbooks in Italy was never going to be an easy feat, though Interwetten has just revealed that they have struck a gold mine sponsorship deal that could see them become a household name in Italy following their success in negotiating a partnership to sponsor five top Serie A (Italian football’s highest division) football clubs.

The clubs signed up for sponsorship are Udinese Calcio, FC Parma, Novara Calcio, AC Siena and US Lecce. Of these five, Udinese is a major European footballing power and the Interwetten name on the Udinese colors could see the company’s logo broadcast around Europe if Udinese hold out for successful Serie A campaign to qualify for European football next season.

internet betting in Italy is on the rise, and following the successful bid for an AAMS license the company should theoretically grow far outside their current standing. The deal with the Serie A football clubs is also rumored to involve live coverage of their games in the form of streams, and a strong presence on the clubs websites too.

Speaking on the event, Dr. Birgit Bosch, the managing director at Interwetten said: “We are delighted and proud of the milestone we have reached in securing an official license for Italy, taking a further step in the dynamic development of Interwetten.”

The new Italian domain of the Interwetten sports betting group will be their tenth successful regional version of the site, with Interwetten already having a presence in nine other countries. It is widely seen as a sign of intent from the budding sportsbook.
