PokerStars runs the largest internet poker network on the net, and is responsible for running some of the richest land-based poker tournaments in the history of poker. FOX Sports, run by news conglomerate FOX News, is one of the most popular sports news websites in the United States. The two have teamed up to offer free online poker games to US players through the FOX Sports website.

“This tie-in will see FOXSports.com and PokerStars.net combine the best live and editorial content with the web’s best online poker games,” said Joe Versaci, the North America regional director for PokerStars.

The new portal will offer free-play poker games as well as online poker news, poker strategy tips, poker tournament results, and more. Players will not be able to bet real money on the games, but because the main PokerStars website offers real money poker play, it is presumed that players will be able to make the connection if they prefer to play online poker in the USA for cash.

“FOX Sports is thrilled to team up with PokerStars.net. Poker enthusiasts are some of the most fanatical and engaged sports fans on the web today. We look forward to delivering the poker experience to our 26 million users,” said Jim Bernard, vice president of gaming at FOX Sports Interactive.

American gambling laws give online poker sites a run for their money. While online gambling in the US is not actually illegal, certain laws make it difficult for players to fund their online accounts. This has led many online gambling sites to stop accepting US players due to confusion about gambling laws.

While PokerStars allows most players in US to use their services, they recently stopped accepting some American players. Poker players in the state of Washington will find themselves unable to sign up at the PokerStars website. This is due to a recent ruling against internet gambling by the Washington Supreme Court.
