LOTTO Thüringen Becomes First Lottery Operator to Go Mobile in Germany

German lottery company, LOTTO Thüringen has launched a new range of services after partnering with IT services provider Adesso. The company will now be offering mobile betting services to its customers, alongside their existing online website.

Previously, lottery players in the German state of Thuringia have been unable to play on the move with their smartphones, as there was no mobile compatible website. That has changed now, however, and players now have access to a dedicated mobile site.

With German gambling laws banning online casinos, the lottery remains the only way for players to gamble in a lot of the country. This was one of the key reasons behind the new website, and LOTTO Thüringen Managing Director Jörg Schwäblein revealed: “In extending our services, we are responding to our younger target audience, which has made good use of the games already available on our website.

“They value increased independence and are used to being able to access an entire range of sites no matter where they are.”

Meanwhile, Adesso expect others to follow the lead, with their senior business developer for lottery, Andreas Kohlmann, adding: “In our opinion, the strategic integration of mobile applications in business processes is key to success, also in the lottery sector.

“We are very pleased that LOTTO Thüringen is the first of our German lottery clients to have created an optimized mobile site and we are certain that other customers will follow in its footsteps.”

This is a big piece of gambling news for Germany, considering the restrictions in the country. While online gambling is largely restricted, the state of Schleswig-Holstein had already granted licenses to operators, meaning one German online casino does exist today. However, after the license expires, it is likely that the government will take steps to shut it down and restrict the market further.
