After the acquisition of Memphis Depay, Louis van Gaal is about to sign a couple of more Netherlands internationals for the Red Devils.

Though the transfer window has just opened officially for Premier League clubs, the last couple of months in English football were already about possible deals. Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal still has a lot of refurbishing to do in order to make the side a potential title contender, as the defence is still feeble and striking options are seriously limited.

• Cillessen to replace De Gea
• De Vrij still in the crosshairs
• Schweinsteiger could come from Bayern

As Van Gaal is constantly looking for defenders and forwards, he also strengthens the midfield, which obviously will be the key section next year, as United will expectedly retain the possession-based football, which is always a characteristic feature for the Dutch manager’s teams. It is hard to imagine Michael Carrick playing a centre back regularly for the sake of maintaining possession, so United need to do some business before September to appear at online sportsbooks in the UK as one of the favourites to win the title.

More Dutch players at Manchester United

Manchester United was linked with a lot of names this summer already however it is only the young international winger from PSV, Memphis Depay, who Louis van Gaal was able to add to his squad initially. Southampton central midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is about to join the Red Devils too, and Van Gaal is desperately looking for some reinforcements in the back. After he missed on the likes of Sergio Ramos and Jerome Boateng and even Nathaniel Clyne, who chose Premier League rivals Liverpool instead, he is most likely to settle on a couple of additional Dutch players to boost his defence, gaming news report.

Lazio’s Stefan de Vrij could help actually in the heart of the backline, while Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen could replace David de Gea, who is on his way to Real Madrid. Van Gaal wanted to bring in De Vrij last summer already, after the 63-year old coached him at the World Cup in Brazil, but the centre back opted to play in Italy then. At the World Cup, Cillessen was the number one Netherlands goalkeeper, but he is best remembered by those who bet on sports in the EU for being substituted against Costa Rica in the quarter-finals just before the penalty shootout.

Who comes from Bayern?

Apart from Boateng, Van Gaal tempted other Bayern Munich players too, like the intelligent forward, Thomas Muller, who is still only 26. Muller has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for long, but he stated that he wants to win trophies with die Roten. He said, “When a request comes, automatically you deal with it. A request from a big club is an honour and a reward that one’s performance is good. But I feel at Bayern well, and my contract runs until 2019. More is not to say to these speculations.”

However, Muller’s teammate at Bayern and at the German national team, World Cup winning Bastian Schweinsteiger could be the one who ends up at Manchester eventually. The rumours about Schweini joining United will be even more intense after Bayern signed Brazil international midfielder Douglas Costa from Shakhtar Donetsk. Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola now can use Thiago Alcantara, Xabi Alonso and Javi Martinez in the middle of the pitch too, not to mention Philipp Lahm, who is a midfielder in the first place for Guardiola, and David Alaba, who can play virtually anywhere around the pitch.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

All this leaves Schweinsteiger with less and less playing time, and according to the news, Van Gaal offered a regular starting role for him, so you shouldn’t be surprised if the 30-year-old signed for United this summer. And you shouldn’t be surprised if surplus winger Nani, who spent the last season on loan at his former employer Sporting, would leave for good, as he is just about to sign for Turkish side Fenerbahce, according to mobile betting news.

After the flop of Radamel Falcao with Javier Hernandez about to leave and with Robin van Persie declining, Wayne Rooney remains the only reliable top quality goalscorer in the team. Wazza will definitely need a striking partner to fight for the title, as certain matches could be won by Marouane Fellaini nodding balls for him, but they can’t build a whole campaign on that.
