Maryland to Expand Poker Gambling

Maryland is seeking to add one more facility to its land-based casinos. MGM Casinos and National Harbor are planning to build a $1 billion casino-resort that will include 4,000 slot machines and 250 table games.

Due to American gambling laws pertaining to the State of Maryland, the local legislators will need to approve it. So far, Maryland has five casinos operating within state borders.

The new development, especially the table games, is likely to attract Washington D.C. residents who now need to rely on Atlantic City and its poker rooms.

Poker is a popular game, and after busting the poker operators running American internet casinos, the need for playing is fulfilled at land-based casinos.

The issue is that video poker doesn’t satisfy real poker players who like to sit at a table and make their bets. Thus, Maryland development makes sense. Some better players participate in tournaments. These are limited to those who are willing to put in larger stakes to enter.

While online casinos run frequent tournaments, the American residents still have very limited options until the Internet gambling in the US gets fully legalized. And that may take many months and is likely to happen only in few states.
