Liverpool forward Salah has been voted the PFA Player of the Year for his breathtaking season, while Man City winger Sane received the Young Player of the Year for helping the Sky Blues clinch the Premier League.

Firing on all cylinders

Although Man City took home the title this season, Liverpool are still in the running for the Champions League – a competition that the former has never won, while the latter has claimed an impressive five times throughout their history.

And Salah is the main attacking threat that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will look to use against AS Roma in the semi-finals, per online sportsbooks in Italy. The Egyptian has already found the back of the net a massive 31 times in 33 Premier League appearances, while overall his tally stands at 41 goals in 46 games so far this season. So it’s no surprise Salah is viewed as the main man when it comes to providing goals for the Reds.

The attacker expressed his delight at winning the award for best player in the league, but also highlighted that while he didn’t have the opportunity to flourish the first time he played in the Premier League with Chelsea, he always knew he’d be back to demonstrate his ability at the highest level football. And he has certainly done that since his last summer’s switch from AS Roma – a side that they’ll face tonight in the Champions League.

“It’s an honour and especially as it’s voted by the players. I am happy and proud,” said the 25-year-old attacker. “I didn’t have my chance at Chelsea. It was clear I would return and show everyone my football. I think I left and came back a different person, man and player.”

Man City shelled out a small fortune of around £37m plus another £10m in add-ons in the summer of 2016 for then 20-year-old Sane, but now in hindsight it seems to have all been worth it. Winning the PFA Young Player of the Year gong recognizes Sane’s contribution to Man City’s success this season that has seen them win the Premier League with what appears to be relative ease.

His debut season at the Etihad has seen the winger score 9 goals in 37 overall appearances, but in his now second campaign, Sane already has 9 strikes in 28 Premier League outings, while across all competitions he’s bagged 13 goals in 45 games, according to online sportsbook news.

On top of providing goals from the wing, Sane’s is an effective ball distributor that helps the game keep fluid and moving forward, the success of which he attributes to Man City boss Pep Guardiola who has revolutionized the club since taking over nearly two years ago.

“He is for me, the best coach in the world,” stressed the German international. “Everyone can see that we’ve improved a lot and have taken the next step. He always tries to get the best and show us the way to play good football.”
