MotoGP betting Options after a close race in Qatar

The crazies on two wheels are back again and after the season opener in Qatar they move on to Argentina with no one quite sure which way this season's going to go which means the MotoGP betting odds are opening up with familiar faces back in the frame as youthful exuberance kicks some to the curb. Sure, the race at the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo is only likely to pose more questions than it answers but not taking advantage of Argentinian gambling laws to bet on it would be a waste.

2018 Argentinian MotoGP Betting Odds
  • Cal Crutchlow – Honda – 22/1
  • Jack Miller – Ducati – 25/1
  • Daniel Pedrosa – Honda – 25/1
  • Johann Zarco – Yamaha – 14/1
  • Jorge Lorenzo – Ducati – 14/1
  • Danilo Petrucci – Ducati – 14/1
  • Maverick Vinales – Yamaha – 8/1
  • Valentino Rossi – Yamaha – 6/1
  • Andrea Dovizioso – Ducati – 10/3
  • Marc Marquez – Honda – 5/4

Everyone expected a relatively close race. Testing had given us an inkling, qualifying even more so, but just how close surprised even the riders. A race that had seen Jorge Lorenzo, Alex Rins and Pol Espargaro all retire came down to the last corner of the last lap and no one is watching MotoGP betting on that kind of wheel-to-wheel racing, but this season you just might want to start. It looks like the Repsol Honda has some real competition in the Ducati and Andrea Dovizioso made it count in Qatar.

Naturally Marc Marquez retained his perpetual plastered grin despite coming second, and Dovi was all smiles but the biggest smirk of all was on the face of Valentino Rossi who grabbed third despite starting in eighth and looked as dangerous as ever he has, although whether the Yamaha has the pace he'll need to keep up with the front runners is questionable. Still if you're fond of MotoGP betting you'll be able to back Rossi with a little clearer conscience after this performance, your heart and head able to agree.

Valentino The Veteran Is Back On Form

Whilst it's all very romantic to back Rossi those who like to bet on sports in Argentina and are taking a slightly longer view than say their next eachway wager on their home nation's MotoGP, those perhaps thinking of doing some MotoGP betting on the outcome of the season as a whole, will still be stuck in a three way tie. Certainly Marc Marquez looked strong, a few more laps and it could have been so different, but Dovizioso seems to have picked up where he left off last season, and that spells trouble.

MotoGP Betting Odds

Valentino Rossi

At least it does for Repsol Honda and those that do their MotoGP betting on them, especially as Dani Pedrosa only managed seventh behind Maverick Vinales on the other Yamaha, and Danilo Petrucci on the other Ducati. It also doesn't bode well for the likes of Johann Zarco who found his tires going south and leaving him high and dry, although he still got home in eighth, which isn't much consolation for someone that grabbed pole position by two whole tenths of a second and lead for the first 17 laps.

MotoGP Betting Odds Split Three Ways

MotoGP World Championship 2018
  • Dani Pedrosa – 22/1
  • Johann Zarco – 20/1
  • Maverick Vinales – 14/1
  • Jorge Lorenzo – 14/1
  • Valentino Rossi – 8/1
  • Andrea Dovizioso – 11/4
  • Marc Marquez – 1/2

So who should you be backing if you're Argentinian gambling news of the close Qatar result gives you more options than would otherwise exist? Well the bookies are sticking to the script as far as they can with around 7/4 on Marquez winning, 10/3 on Dovizioso snapping up another victory and Valentino Rossi sat at 13/2 making even an eachway bet on Maverick Vinales at 9/1 just a bit tasty, as can be said for those 15/1 odds you can snaffle on Petrucci if you like your MotoGP betting closer to the wind.

Naturally that win in Qatar does make Andrea Dovizioso a very tempting bet to be World Champion this year, and indeed if you go hunting around there are some MotoGP betting providers still offering 3/1 on him. After that ride? It's hard to pass up, although Marc Marquez still gets 8/13 favorite status you can bet there will be more than a few Italians willing to put their hand in their pocket to bet on Valentino Rossi getting another crown, especially at the 8/1 odds you can dig up on him doing so.
