Our aim is to present every single team participating in the Copa America, and now it is time to introduce Uruguay.

The Copa América is the oldest continental football tournament as the first version of it was launched in 1916. The tournament has been a major event in the South American region ever since, and sometimes they also invite teams to participate from different regions – such as Mexico, USA or Japan.

• Uruguay has great history
• Suarez is banned
• Cavani will be key player

Uruguay has always been among the most important South American teams in the history of football. They have won the very first World Cup and even though they won the title „only” once afterwards, their team became immortal forever thanks to this great achievement.

Uruguayan football has glorious past

online gambling sites in Uruguay still like to mention the amazing results that Uruguay has achieved in the past. They have won the first World Cup in 1930 as a host nation, and they have also won the prestigious trophy in Brazil in 1950. However, they have never even made it to the top three after these successes.

That is not the case when it comes to the continental tournament! As we have reported in one of our previous posts, Uruguay is the most successful team in the history of the Copa América, even though many would expect the great star teams as Argentina or Brazil.

Uruguay has claimed the title more than any other teams – to be 100% accurate, they have won the golden medal 15 times. Argentina comes as second in this sense, as they have 14 Copa América trophies, due to their lack of luck in the last games – they lost 12 finals! Brazil is only the third most successful team, they are trying to improve their statistics this year.

Even though the fact that Uruguay has lost its dominating position in the World Cup, they are still a decisive factor in the continental tournament. Uruguay runs this season as title holder as they have won the last Copa América in 2011 upon defeating Paraguay easily by 3-0 in the final, with the goal of Suarez and the double of Forlán.

Uruguay is not favourite thanks to recent form

Even though the fact that Uruguay is the reigning champion, they are not regarded as one of the main favourites for winning the title again. online sportsbooks in Uruguay have set the odds for the triumph of Óscar Tabarez’s men at 13.00 (12/1), according to the odds of Bet365.

Even thuogh the high odds for the success of Los Charrúas, they have every chance they need to qualify for the next round from the group stages. They are in group B, which means that their rivals will be relatively easy targets such as Jamaica and Paraguay, however they will also have to face Argentina.

Their first game day will be held on 13 June, where Jamaica will debut against them, and the historic derby will take place in Estadio La Portada on the 16th on June. Uruguay’s last game in the group phase will be against Paraguay. They will have to reach at least the second place in order to qualify for the quarter-finals.

There the race will be even more exciting as only the best 8 teams make it to the next round. In addition, that will be the knockout stage where anything can happen in only 90 minutes – or an additional 30, of course. With a lucky drawing, Uruguay could be able to defend their title this year.

The squad has become weaker due to lack of Forlan and Suarez

However, the online internet casinos regard them as underdogs because their squad is missing star players. Uruguay always had several amazingly skilled players who were able to make a difference when it is needed the most. That is why they are the most successful team of Copa América.

These players were Luis Suarez and Diego Forlán in recent times. The former Liverpool and Ajax, current Barceolna striker Suarez is a great player but he is abscent from the squad due to his international ban for biting Chiellini in the World Cup in Brazil in the encounter against Italy.

The other star player was Diego Forlán, who has lead the team to the semi-finals of the World Cup 2010, and was a great captain of the national team. However, after the World Cup 2014 he decided to retire from international football to hand his place over to the younger generation.

Nowadays the biggest star player of the Uruguayan national team is Paris Saint-Germain’s striker, Edinson Cavani, according to mobile betting sites. The other great player is Atletico de Madrid’s central defender, Diego Godín, who lead his club to Champions League final and La Liga victory in the last season.
