Ready For A Flutter On The Queen Mother Champion Chase?

The traditional feature race of Wednesday at the Cheltenham Festival is due to be quite the eye-opener this year as the firm favorite might not take to the heavy going at a course that has seen heavy rain in the aftermath of the cold snap that plagued Europe so recently, but if you’re going to have a flutter and do some Champion Chase betting do the odds available online for Altior mean the best bet is an each-way wager? We take a look.

Anyone in the UK gambling news reports of puddles on the course, massively heavy going and further rain to come were an exaggeration and that the Cheltenham Festival will be it’s typically firm (sometimes even frozen) self should think again. The ground is not so much soft as it is soggy and that means things might not go to the script the bookies seem to have backed offering ridiculously short odds on the favourite and all but forcing Champion Chase betting fans out to each-way wager choices.

Fortunately this a superb field and with those conditions there’s all the room in the world for an upset over the two miles and 12 fences that make up this iconic race named after the Queen Mother for her unwavering support for Jump racing back on her 80th Birthday. Sure Altior has the odds sewn up sat on just Evens to win, but that might not be the full story here, and indeed if one is going each-way instead of on the nose there’s some Champion Chase betting opportunities that could be quite rewarding.

Is Altior Priced Too Short To Back In The Champion Chase?

Champion Chase Betting
• Ordinary World – 66/1
• God’s Own – 40/1
• Ar Mad – 40/1
• Charbel – 40/1
• Special Tiara – 28/1
• Politologue – 14/1
• Min – 11/4
• Douvan – 11/4
• Altior – Evens

Obviously one would need to be quite the clairvoyant to place their faith in Ordinary World coming in the top three this time round, sure it’s put in some placed finishes recently under Davy Russell, but you can’t help thinking that at 66/1 that might be a piece of Champion Chase betting too far, especially when you can find 40/1 on God’s Own, Ar Mad and Charbel. God’s Own for example placed over a distance 5 furlongs longer than this race so could be worth a punt, but that was on far firmer footing.

Likewise Ar Mad got a third place back in December at the 2 mile mark under Joshua Moore, something Charbel hasn’t managed since April of 2017 and if you’re going to take advantage of UK gambling laws to do your Champion Chase betting on David Bass and Charbel you’re a braver man than I am. Special Tiara placed 3rd just back in February which explains the 28/1 you can find on it, and makes it a far better each-way opportunity than Politologue which gets a slightly mean spirited 14/1.

Is Politologue The Best Champion Chase Betting Choice?

Queen Mother Champion Chase 2018
• Will Altior win the Champion Chase as easily as it’s odds are short?
• Will Douvan get another win for Ruby Walsh and Willie Mullins?
• Can Min make it four wins in a row at the Cheltenham Festival?
Is Special Tiara the best each-way Champion Chase betting option?

On the nose, however, Politologue makes far more sense. Having won three of the last four races all over 2 miles or more, and coming second but a month back, this is perhaps the dark horse of the race with the ability to win if the conditions don’t ruin its chances. Of course it’ll have to get by Min and Douvan first, both of which inhabit the 11/4 zone of Champion Chase betting odds, and both of which can easily win if Altior doesn’t have the day all to itself as the bookies seem to believe it should.

Min enters the Champion Chase betting that its form will attract backers, this winter season sees it arrive on the back of three victories, and those over furlongs further than this, but it’ll still have Douvan alongside it who might have disappointed just this month on good going, but flew in the three races before that under Ruby Walsh on soft going of the sort we’ll see on Wednesday, so possibly the one to back, especially if you like to bet on sports in the UK but not on those silly short odds on Altior.
