Sebastian Vettel: Racing’s Third highest Winner in Races

Only Michael Schumacher and Alain Prost have won more races than Vettel.

Sebastian Vettel just won the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Germany driver for Ferrari has tried to win this race many times before but fell short. Making Hungarian gambling news, this surprise win makes Vettel F1 racings third highest winner of races. Although he is currently tied with Ayrton Senna at 41 career victories, it took Vettel nine fewer to achieve this.

The 28 year old is a graduate of the Red Bull young driver programme as well as Daniil Kvyat who placed 2nd.

Vettel has won the Formula One World Championship four times for Red Bull, before signing his current contract with Ferrari. He is the youngest ever to win the World Championship at 23. Among his other “youngest” records, is the youngest driver to had taken part in an official practice session of Grand Prix, the youngest to score championship points and the youngest to lead and secure a pole position.

Vettel’s early beginnings


Vettel was born in Heppenheim, Germany in 1987 and began racing amateur go-karting at 3 and half years old. By the time he was eight, Vettel entered the karts series. Vettel’s talent was noticed and by 11 he was accepted into the Red Bull Junior Team in 1998. Vettel, F-1 racings third most winning driver, won various titles including the Junior Monaco Kart Cup. Vettel advanced to open-wheel cars in 2003 and in a year won the 2004 German Formula BMW Championship with victories in 18 out of 20 races.

The next year, Vettel drove in the Formula 3 Euro series for ASL Mucke Motorsport. This resulted in him winning top rookie honors after placing fifth in overall standing with 63 points. In 2006, Vettel drove again for the F-3 Euro series, appeared twice in the Renault World Series and became a test driver for Sauber in Formula One. Although he won several races, he failed to get a championship.

An injury to his finger from an accident made many expect him to be out for weeks, but Vettel surprised everyone by competing and placing sixth in the Ultimate Masters of F3 race a week later as well as setting the third fastest lap time. While he was leading the standings in the Formula Renault 3.5 series, Formula One offered him a permanent position. Replacing Scott Speed on Red Bull’s Toro Rosso team, Vettel was able to finish the season and earn USD 165,000 making German gambling news.

After some struggle, Vettel started to get used to driving for the team Torro Rosso. While at the Japanese Grand Prix, Vettel crashed into Mark Webber putting him and his Red Bull team mate out of the race. Although Webber criticized Vettel’s driving, critics later believed the accident to be the fault of Lewis Hamilton’s erratic driving behind the safety car. The next race in China proved more successful as Vettel had a fourth place finish. Earning five championship points, Red Bull gained their best team result yet.

The Vettel of 2008 was a far cry from Vettel, racings third highest winner. After failing to finish his first four races, three of them due to accidents, Vettel finally achieved a 17th place finish at the Turkish Grand Prix. His next race in Monaco ended with a 12th place finish. After he hydroplaned his way out of the British Grand Prix, Vettel secured another low place finish in Germany. After retiring in Hungary due to engine failure, Vettel he achieved a sixth place finish at the European Grand Prix.

Fortunately Vettel persisted and won the Italian Grand Prix becoming the youngest driver in history to win a Formula One Grand Prix. Making Italian gambling news, Vettel surpassed Fernando Alonso by 317 days. With a fifth, sixth and fourth places finishes in Singapore, Japan and Brazil, Vettel was named Rookie of the Year at the Autosport Award in 2008. The next season Vettel began to drive for Team Red Bull.

In 2009 Vettel won the Chinese Grand Prix and became the youngest driver to win with two different teams. Having the best year of his career, Vettel was able to win the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and had a number of second and third place finishes that placed him second in overall standings at the end of the year. In 2010, after a much heated season neck to neck with teammate Webber, Vettel helped secure Red Bull’s first Formula One World Constructors’ Championship and won the Driver’s Championship.

As the youngest world champion in Sport’s history, Vettel had a few challenges in the 2010 season. The Formula One Association put out a ban on engine mappings which was believed by many enforced in order to curb Vettel’s dominance on the track. Vettel became the first driver to win more than 10 races in a season after Michael Schumacer and helped Red Bull secure a second Constructor’s Championship. Vettel won the Formula One Drivers Championship earning 392 points that year.

By the time Vettel entered the Brazilian Grand Prix, he was 13 points ahead of Alonso for the championship. Finishing the race in sixth place, Vettel won his third consecutive championship. In the 2013 season controversy struck when Vettel ignored direct orders to not pass Webber in the Malaysian Grand Prix and won the race. He secured his fourth consecutive championship after the Indian Grand Prix. In 2014 Vettel failed to win a single race and at the end of the season, signed with Ferrari. In 2015 Vettel won his 40th Grand Prix in Malaysia.
