Many in the boxing community are starting to bet on Shakur Stevenson to win Olympic Gold in Brazil this summer.

It’s been 12 years since an American has won a gold medal in Olympic Boxing. For whatever reason, the US has struggled to find the same success that former stars like Muhammad Ali and Pernell Whittaker found in Olympic competition. That may change in just a couple weeks, and many are willing to bet on Shakur Stevenson being the next American boxer to win gold.

Stevenson has been incredibly impressive during his run as an amateur boxer. He began training at just five years old in his home city of Newark, New Jersey. In 2014, he made US gambling news by winning the AIBA Youth World Championships, and that same year took home gold in the Youth Olympic Games.

It may be no coincidence that two of Shakur’s biggest boxing heroes had successful Olympic runs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. won a bronze medal in the 1996 Olympic Games (many felt he was robbed of a gold) and Andre Ward is the last male American to win gold in the 2004 Games in Athens.

What Websites can you Bet on Shakur Stevenson to Win Gold?

A number of websites are offering betting lines for men’s Olympic Boxing. Sportsbet currently lists Stevenson as a +275 underdog to win gold, but he doesn’t mind. To Shakur, this is an opportunity to prove he is one of the most exciting prospects in boxing.

“I hate losing,” Stevenson said. “A loss is like a tragedy to me. A loss is like somebody died, basically. I just don’t want that feeling at all, so I’m gonna go down there and handle my business.”

Will do you think? Is it a smart gambling to bet on Shakur Stevenson bringing home gold? Leave your comments below, and make sure to check out GamingZion’s list of online sportsbooks in the US to find a complete list of all the best websites for betting on the Olympics!
