Big news stories came thick and fast last week so in case you missed anything important we take a moment to quickly review some of the headlines.

In the United States embattled President Donald Trump spent the week making friends in the media by declaring some of the most prestigious broadcasters and publications in the world “fake news” and calling them “the enemy of the people”. His Press Secretary, Sean Spicer, then barred respected journalistic outlets such as the BBC, the Guardian, CNN, Buzzfeed and the New York Times from a briefing for their critical coverage and announced he'd not be attending the annual Press Corps dinner.

In Malaysia investigations continued into the assassination of the half brother of North Korean ruler Kim Jong-un, Kim Jong-nam last week. Following tests that proved Mr Kim was killed using a VX nerve agent, the Indonesian woman arrested for the crime, Siti Aisyah, told officials she had been paid $90 to smear “baby oil” on Mr Kim as part of a prank for television. The airport was declared free of contamination and the police are still seeking seven individuals in connection with the killing.

In Hollywood the most glittering night of the year, the Academy Awards, or Oscars, took center stage last week with wins for Viola Davis, Mahershala Ali, Casey Affleck & Emma Stone the show was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and featured a number of jokes at the expense of President Trump as well as other well known celebrities. Damien Chazelle won the award for Best Director for La La Land, with Moonlight winning Best Picture after a dramatic mix up that saw La La Land accidentally announced.

In sports the bout fight fans have been waiting for was announced last week with WBO world welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao agreeing to face Amir Khan from the UK on April 23rd. Khan last fought Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez of Mexico, getting knocked out in the process, so the question is can he really stand up to the former retiree in the ring? You'll have to read our daily news pages to find out, but in the meantime here's a look back at some of the big stories we covered over the last seven days.

Meanwhile Nokia decided to step back in time last week launching it's revamp of the classic 3310 handset some 17 years after it first hit the stores. Now seen as a piece of retro nostalgia, and with a few new features (a 2 megapixel camera for instance) it might not have the 3G/4G options of modern handsets but at a very reasonable price and with a mammoth battery life it is likely to find a market as a secondary or “holiday” phone. It will even ship with the now iconic game “Snake” pre-installed.
