With the 2017/18 season now officially underway, now is a great time to head to Intertops Sportsbook and place your bet on which NHL teams will make the playoffs this season.

On October 4th, the 101st NHL season officially kicked off. The regular season will conclude on April 7th, 2018 and one of the best online sportsbooks in the US is now allowing their members to bet on which teams will make the NHL playoffs.

Before the start of the season it’s extremely hard to tell which teams will manage to find success, but the oddsmakers have already set the odds for the teams that they feel will manage to make it into the postseason. Let’s take a look at a few of the betting favorites.

Bet on the Pittsburgh Penguins: 1.05

The Pittsburgh Penguins played phenomenal last season in route to their championship win at the Stanley Cup. They possess one of the best rosters in the NHL right now with head coach Mike Sullivan often credited for helping his team find success.

2017 Stanley Cup odds

  • Pittsburgh Penguins: 1.05
  • Edmonton Oilers: 1.08
  • Washington Capitals: 1.10
  • Anaheim Ducks: 1.12
  • Dallas Stars: 1.12

Their championship win last season is likely the reason they’re listed as the top favorite to make the NHL playoffs this season. They looked great during last year’s regular season with a record of 50-21-11 and are expected to perform similarly this year.

At the moment, Intertops Sportsbook lists the Penguin’s odds to make it into the playoffs this year at 1.05. With little changes to their roster since last season and the momentum they’re carrying, the Penguins might be your safest bet here.

Bet on the Edmonton Oilers: 1.08

The Edmonton Oilers are one of the NHL’s best teams right now and without the top Canadian team in the league. They were ranked second in the Pacific Division last season and performed well in the playoffs before losing to the Ducks in a close second round series.

The Oilers are now one of the most popular teams in the NHL and many ice hockey betting experts feel this could be the year they win their first Stanley Cup since 1990.

Edmonton has performed leaps and bounds better under the Connor McDavid era and are a solid pick for which NHL teams will make the playoffs this season. At the moment, their odds to make it into the postseason are set at 1.08.

Bet on the San Jose Sharks: 1.50

San Jose was seen as one of the best teams in the NHL just a few years ago but changes to their roster and unfortunate performances in the playoffs over the past several years had some analysts voicing their opinion that the Sharks had become a mid-tier team. Now, they’re not exactly a betting favorite to make the playoffs this season, but they have a real shot at making US gambling news
by proving they can still compete at the highest level.

Last season, the Sharks lost in the first round of the playoffs to the aforementioned Edmonton Oilers. Doug Wilson feels his team will perform better this year, telling the media ”We think we have a very good hockey team. We’ve got key players in key positions,” Wilson said. “Go back two years when we went to the Stanley Cup Finals and see the contributions we got from everybody. We need those kinds of contributions from everybody again. We’re the sum of all our parts.”

At the moment, the Sharks’ odds to make it into the playoffs this year are set at 1.50. Those looking to make money betting on the NHL might wants to consider a wager on the Sharks.
