With the 2017 MLS playoffs just a few months away, now is the perfect time to break down some of the best players in the MLS right now.

We’re now months into this year’s MLS season, and a number of players have emerged as true superstars. Many of these players are established veterans with big game experience, while others are just beginning to show their worth.

In this article we’ll take a look at some of the best players in the MLS right now, and discuss each of these player’s teams odds to win the MLS Cup in 2017.

Jozy Altidore: Toronto FC

Ask a soccer fan in the US to name an MLS player and there’s a solid chance you’ll hear the name Jozy Altidore. The 27 year old striker had a somewhat disappointing season in 2016, but has looked great so far in 2017 and is a key reason why Toronto FC is one of the betting favorites to win the MLS Cup.

2017 MLS Cup winner betting odds

  • Toronto FC: 8.00
  • FC Dallas: 10.00
  • New York City FC: 11.00
  • Chicago Fire: 11.00
  • Los Angeles Galaxy: 13.00

Altidore has been a professional since 2006, and since then has played for a number of different teams including UK Premier League team Hull City. Jozy made the move to Toronto FC in 2015, and over the past two years has already scored 30 goals.

As we mentioned before, Toronto FC is one of the favorites to win the MLS Cup this year, and holds the best record in the league right now at 10-5-2. With one of the best players in the MLS right now, they are a solid betting option with current odds of 8.00, according to Intertops.

Fanendo Adi: Portland Timbers

Nigerian forward Fanendo Adi joined the Portland Timbers in 2014, and has since scored 46 goals with the team. He’s already the top all-time goalscorer for the Timbers. Can he help them make US gambling news by winning the MLS Cup this year? That remains to be seen.

Portland is currently ranked 3rd in the Western Conference with a record of 7-4-7. If Adi can continue to play the way he has through the season, there’s a good chance the Timbers will make their way into the MLS Cup.

Though they’ve lost some key games to teams like Minnesota United and Seattle Sounders, Portland still holds some great odds to win the championship this year. They are somewhat of an underdog according to Intertops with odds of 15.00, meaning they offer a great opportunity to make money betting on soccer.

Josef Martinez: Atlanta United

Josef Martinez was already seen as one of the best players in the MLS at the start of this season. The Venezuelan striker suffered a quad injury in March that forced him to sit on the sidelines, but after tireless rehab he’s now back on the field and is looking better than ever.

Josef scored the lone goal in United’s win against the Colorado Rapids. He’s stated in the media that his injury is completely behind him, which almost immediately prompted most online sportsbooks in the US to raise Atlanta United’s odds to win the MLS Cup.

At the moment, United’s odds to win the championship are set at 15.00. With Martinez back they have a real shot at putting a win steak together. On July 1st they’ll be facing off against Columbus Crew in a game many MLS betting experts feel will be the most exciting of the week.
