Mobile Casinos in the United States

The years 2013 and 2014 may see a breakthrough for US mobile casinos, as technical developments follow the legal ones in states that authorize online gambling. Until that time, however, US players have to access foreign online destinations from their portable devices. The large US market is served by a host of operators, with a few major one standing out of the crowd. A third of the American cell phone subscribers are served by AT&T Mobility and another third by Verizon Wireless. Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile are also big ones, commanding 17% and 10% market shares, respectively. Although the number of subscriptions has recently exceeded 100% of the population back in 2010, the rate of actual, individual cell phone holders was only at 86% at the start of 2013 (the difference is due to industrial and B2B users, and various automatic processes relying on wireless data transmission). The relatively low penetration rate is explained by the widespread availability of highly developed and inexpensive landline alternatives. By the start of 2013 over 80% of American cell phone users were in possession of smartphones or tablets. More than half of the devices in use are powered by Android, but iOS has a strong second place with a third of the market.
