Betfair decides to refund all bets on Manchester United winning the Premier League title this season.
Ever since Manchester United said good-bye to Sir Alex and David Moyes has been chosen as the new manager, the Red Devils aren’t enjoying the best of form. Lots of defeats from old-rivals, some embarrassing losses to inferior teams, and the latest exit from the Capital One Cup, are not signs of a top Premier League team.
Betfair, one of the best online sportsbooks in the United Kingdom, shares the pain of many supporters and vowed to refund all bets on Man United winning the Premier League this season. However, the bookie has also put forward a new deal: for a limited time only punters, who still believe in the Red Devils can bet on them taking the crown this season at whopping 70/1 odds.
Just why are United down currently?
Perhaps, no one can answer that. The team has both Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney back in action after injuries, and they have just signed Juan Mata from Chelsea. Anyhow, their current seventh position in the League with only 15 games to go, may be already not enough to win the title this year.
Betfair estimate that they will be shelling out around GBP 100,000 to refund all bets placed on Man United winning the Premier League. Their new offer of 70/1 for the Red Devils to win the League seems tempting and one of the most attractive lines under British gambling laws currently. And the team has already shown some magic in overcoming odds, just remember the 1999 Champions League final injury-time goal.
Here’s what Nick Hagen, Sports Operations Director for Betfair, had to say: “After Fergie retired, many United fans were left ruing their 2013/14 Title winning bets. We’ve decided to refund those stakes and offer an industry best price of 70/1 on them to win the title this season. Even with the renewed optimism from the arrival of Juan Mata and the victory over Cardiff our traders simply can’t see it happening.”
