  • The first episode was about the "visible" members...
  • players, coaches, managers, the owner.
  • Now we talk about the "invisible" members.
  • Learn how eSports organizations work!

This is the second part of our investigation on who works for eSports teams and how eSports organizations work.

If you’re an eager GamingZion reader, then you already know who works for eSports teams. You know it all about the players, the coaches, the managers and the owner(s). You even know how to become an eSports manager. If not, please click on the links and read our previous articles. Once you’re done with those, come back to check how eSports organizations work and how an eSports team is built up.

The sponsors

Sponsors are not parts of eSports teams, but still they are one of the most important participants in the lives of each eSports teams. Well, in the lives of all teams. Without sponsors, how would they get income? How would they be able to afford to pay salaries to their employers? How would they be able to make any profit?

It’s obvious that sponsors are a vital part in eSport teams even if they are not direct employees of the eSports teams. They co-exist as they mutually need each other, just like in any other sports actually. Fly Emirates is cool. Real Madrid is cool. Put the two together and you get something amazing. That’s how eSports organizations work too!

Audi is the main sponsor of eSports team Astralis, while T-Mobile supports Cloud9 and TSM. Other giant companies like Red Bull and Coca Cola host several eSports events, sponsoring certain competitive video games instead of certain teams. But as you can see, sponsors have a huge role in the growth of the eSports industry. Well, or the growth has a huge role in their appearance…

How eSports organizations work together with influencers

Finding sponsors is the best, but not the only way of how eSports teams make money. There are huge rewards and YouTube and streaming as well. That’s why it is very important for a properly working eSports organization to run professional YouTube, Twitch and other streaming channels. To reach out to as many people as possible.

Jarosław “pashaBiceps” Jarząbkowski is one of the most popular CS:GO streamers.

Obviously, it doesn’t hurt them if these people who reach out to the crowd, actually represent a certain quality, and are popular among gaming fans. Hence, Twitch and YouTube influencers also work for eSports teams and they play an important part in the success of the team. After all, what is success good for, if people don’t know about your success?

I can use Team Liquid as an example once again. They are one of the most competitive eSports teams in the world. Not only because they have the best players, but because they, as an organization, have picked only the best candidates to strengthen their staff. They are always amongst the favourites at all eSports betting guides.

The core of how an eSports organization works: the marketing staff

Another important task on how an eSports organization works belongs to the marketing staff. They make money through marketing, advertising and merchandise. Team logos can only be used by the club itself, so they obviously make money whenever they can ‘sell’ any product with the club’s logo on it. That’s what the marketing staff is working on.

Trying to come up will easy-to-sell merchandise in hopes of increasing the revenues as much as possible. Physical merchandise like hats shirts, jerseys are popular, but they can also sell skins, stickers and characters as well. Whatever people want to buy that is related to the eSports organization.

Online sportsbook sites in the USA…

Okay, I lied. Online sportsbook sites in the USA do not work for eSports teams. They work for you. Especially if you feel like placing a bet on eSports events or matches. However, they do work for you: you can easily get some extra money if you follow the most important eSports events and bet on them!
