BBC Sports Personality 2018 Odds: Not Hard to Predict

Who is this year’s most popular figure in the UK when it comes to sports? That question will be decided by a public vote. And the official BBC Sports Personality 2018 odds suggest that the results might be easier to predict than last time around.

In 2017, Mo Farah, the record-breaking distance runner, won the title. Although his name had been mentioned among strong contenders for a while prior to his win, that outcome was an upset.

Unibet Sportsbook, one of the best online betting sites in the UK, has already opened the bet on this year’s winner. The odds offered there suggest that 2018 will not bring another upset: the FIFA World Cup star is strongly favored to win.

The Best Contender: Harry Kane (3/5)

Harry Kane

England’s side is not over with the World Cup yet but gambling enthusiasts are already capitalizing on the team captain’s ever-increasing popularity. The BBC Sports Personality Award is just one of the numerous betting specials offered on him. It is not the one promising the highest returns but it is certainly one of the safest of those offers.

Kane is leading the race for the World Cup Golden Boot Award, having already scored as many times (6) as the top goalscorer at the previous World Cup (James Rodríguez).

Not only does he get results, he makes football entertaining to watch. That might stem from his unfaltering love of football. As Tottenham Hotspur coach Clive Allen put it in an older interview, “one thing I’d say about him, which unfortunately you don’t say about a lot of young footballers, is that he had a passion for the game. He loves football, he loves playing, he loves scoring goals.

The Guardian might have called Jordan Pickford “England’s flying superhero” for his incredible saves against Colombia, but it is still Kane, not the goalkeeper, who is seen as the key player. Online sportsbooks in the UK consider Pickford’s chances to be significantly lower (10/1) than those of Kane.

The other contender with decent BBC Sports Personality 2018 odds: Anthony Joshua (4/1)

The heavyweight boxer was the bookies’ favorite last year and seems to be the only sportsperson who has a realistic shot at stealing the award from Kane this year. Following his 2017 wins against Wladimir Klitschko and Carlos Takam, he defeated Joseph Parker.

The problem is that his rumored bout with Deontay Wilder seems to have fallen apart. Considering how highly anticipated that fight was, it is doubtful that Anthony Joshua could get his fans more excited in 2018 than Harry Kane’s World Cup performance got his own fans.

We are going for the bookies favorite on this bet. However, if your intuition tells you that this year will bring another upset in the history of the award, you can check the full list of BBC Sports Personality 2018 odds at Unibet Sportsbook.
