Tottenham Hotspur star and England international Harry Kane continues to break records not just in the Premier League, but all across Europe. His tremendous goalscoring exploits have seen him surpass the likes of Messi and Ronaldo to be named the top striker on the continent for the current calendar year.

Better than the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and former legendary England international

With a staggering 56 goals to his name for both club and country during 2017, Kane effectively surpassed Argentine Lionel Messi – the man that normally tops the goalscoring charts and is the favourite with online sportsbooks in Spain - who himself scored 54 in all competitions.

The Barcelona forward bagged one goal in last weekend’s El Clasico which gave him an average 0.85 goals per game, however the Tottenham striker achieved something even more impressive – recording two hat-tricks in a row, first against Burnley away and then against Southampton at home on Boxing Day. Besides becoming the most lethal goal machine for this year, Kane also managed to record the best average during 52 games that he’s played in – 1.08 goals per match for both Tottenham and the England national side.

“It has been a fantastic year,”  Kane commented about his spectacular year. “To get compared to those players – the Messis and Shearers – is what it is all about. To get another hat-trick is a great way to end the year. It is always about improving every year. That’s what I always have done throughout my career and it is what I will continue to do.”

Of the 56 goals Kane netted during the year, 39 of those came in the Premier League, which broke Alan Shearer’s 22-year-old record for registering 36 goals during the 1995 calendar year with the Blackburn Rovers.

Lethal in front of goal for the last few seasons

After moving from one English side to the other in the early stages of his career, Kane finally had his breakthrough season in 2014/15 where he bagged an impressive 21 goals in 34 Premier League appearances and 31 in 51 apps overall. According to online sportsbook news, rumours immediately started circulating that Real Madrid are in the hunt for the talented striker to make him their new “galactico” player.

Despite scoring slightly less overall (28 goals) in the following campaign, he still outperformed himself domestically, by finding the back of the net 25 times, compared to “merely” 21 times the season before. Kane’s stats yet again improved in 2016/17, with a whopping 29 goals in the English top flight and a cool 35 across all competitions – his best campaign to date. But it looks as if he’s on track to break his personal best this season.

In 19 Premier League appearances so far this campaign, the England international already has 18 goals to his name, with his overall tally standing at 24 goals in as many games. If he managed to maintain the impeccable form he’s enjoying at the moment in the second half of the season, he’ll likely bag even more goals than he did in 2016/17.
