Three people have been charged with the murder of poker player Mehmet Hassan, found dead in his home in Baxter Road, Canonbury.

Mehmet Hassan, aged 56, died of several chest and neck injuries. The incident happened last week and police have been looking for murder suspects since then, local gambling news say.

Nicholas Chandler, 28, of Bow, Leone Granger, 24, of Gillingham in Kent and Kyrran Jackson, 27, of Lewisham have been charged with murder and have appeared in front of the Highbury Magistrate’s Court earlier this morning.

Poker win turns grim

According to the police, Hassan was seen the night before his murder, returning from a night out at the casino. The victim had won some money playing at a British poker room and there was no sign of forced entry at his flat, which is why the police believe he might have opened the door to his attackers.

The man was living alone and his relatives were distraught to find out he was dead. “There were police everywhere and then there were relatives up and down all over the place crying their eyes out as well as women screaming and shouting just after they found him,” neighbor John Turner told reporters.

Now local authorities have arrested four other people in connection with the murder investigation, but they have been bailed until June. The suspects are said to be aged between 18 and 34.
