Foligno and Granlund tied an NHL record: the only time two goals in two seconds were scored before happened in 1987.

Columbus Blue Jackets winger Nick Foligno and Minnesota Wild forward Mikael Granlund did something that never happened in the last 18 years of the NHL. They scored two goals in two seconds, stunning many of those who bet on sports in the US.

The Blue Jackets captain made it 3–2 at 59:44. The hosts lined up with an empty net for the next face-off to boost their chances to score the equalizer in the remaining sixteen seconds. However, Granlund, a 2010 first-rounder was able to score right after the puck hit the ice. 2010 fourth overall pick Ryan Johansen could have done better. These two goals in two seconds made it 4–2.

Two goals in two seconds an NHL record

  • Two goals in two seconds is an NHL record
  • Foligni scored, Granlund found the empty net
  • Minnesota to reach the playoffs
The only time two goals in two seconds were scored in an NHL match before was in December 1987. Back then Boston Bruins center Ken Linseman scored in a 7–5 thriller. Two seconds later, St. Louis Blues legend Doug Gilmour answered with a goal, setting an NHL record, as many fans and internet betting experts might know.

On Tuesday, the Foligno-Granlund pair joined Linseman and Gilmour with the two goals in two seconds NHL record. This two goals in two seconds historical achievement is virtually the only good thing in the Blue Jackets season however. They are not only rock bottom in the Metropolitan Division, but they are actually the worst team in the league currently.
