Online Poker in Ukraine

Poker is a very popular pastime in Ukraine. In fact, at the time of general ban on gambling in 2009, the game was immediately included on a list that recognized it as a sport. However, in 2010, a new amendment was enforced stating that poker was a form of gambling and, therefore, prohibit. In 2013, the Ukranian Sports Poker Federation appealed to the Supreme Court so that the game would be reclassified and tournament poker became legal. Online Poker Laws in Ukraine

The law On the Prohibition of Gambling Business in Ukraine (Прозаборонугральногобізнесу в Україні) stated that online gambling was forbidden, with the exception of the lottery. However, especially due to the changes that occurred, the Ukrainian poker laws are not very clear when it comes to the operation of online poker sites. As it doesn’t fall on the definition of gambling, it is assumed that they are fully allowed. As of June 2019, there are no domestic platforms available, but players from the country can easily access other websites that even offer their pages in the Ukranian language.
