The formerly Asia-facing 12Bet now has sights set on expansion in Europe: The Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission has granted a license to offer its online sportsbook in the UK – and potentially beyond.

British gambling laws are some of the most liberal in the world, and its “White List” strategy for regulating those who want to operate a sportsbook, poker room or online casino in the United Kingdom is among the simplest. A potential provider of such a website who receives certification from any British or European Union nation or protectorate is automatically legal to do business in the U.K.

12Bet is currently present online in virtually every Asian market and offers betting on some 7,000 football matches per month, but the Isle of Man licensure represents the sportsbook’s first foray into Europe.

The company had planned for winning the license this summer, announcing last month that they had partnered with England-based software solutions provider GB Group. GB Group will provide customer identification and blocking services for 12Bet websites, as 12Bet will not be taking punters from countries where betting on sports online is illegal.

12Bet.com CEO Rory Anderson stated at the time of the GB Group agreement that “By helping us meet our regulatory requirements, we can continue to operate responsibly and transparently: a fundamental approach in the way we do business.”
