iSlide from the Future

iSlide is an electric skateboard that is not balanced by the rider but is motorized. Its inventor is Tal Ofir, an Israeli industrial designer. The board is made of resin and fiberglass, so it's solid but not too heavy. It is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, and its top speed is approximately 15 kilometers per hour. The large wheel in the middle has its motor, and the rider accelerates it by leaning forward and slows it down by leaning back.  There are two small wheels at one end, but this has no role while driving. It is needed because there is a handle at the other end of the board, so when it is not in use, you can pull it behind you on the two small wheels, like a suitcase. For city traffic, the vehicle also received a headlight, which was located in the front between the already mentioned two small wheels. However, iSlide is not the only crazy invention out there. Rare Board Sports

Tiroll Turfboard moves on continuous tracks. Tracked extreme boards are not entirely unusual, but these are all powered by a motor, unlike the Tiroll Turfboard. The track is in the middle of a narrow row, so the board can be tilted and maneuvered better on the grass than its four-wheeled counterparts. Snowsnaker

The Snowsnaker is a board cut in two and is flexibly connected in the middle so the board can move more easily in all directions, and the rider can correct the mistakes better. It doesn't hurt to have some skateboarding or snowboarding experience since you have to stand without your feet attached to the snowsnaker, unlike on a snowboard. As a result, you can't do many tricks with it as you can with a sports device with buckles and bindings. Monoski

Alpine skiing or snowboarding? What about both? Monoski is a single, wide ski. Jack Marchand made the first monoski we know of in 1961 and patented it in 1964. Nevertheless, the monoski we know today is not his invention but a Californian surfer’s from 1969. In the mid-1960s, several people tried to bring together monoskis for some reason. The standard procedure was to piece together two skis somehow at home but Look also tried to do something similar. Rare Board Sports

Skullboard is the summer version of the Skeleton sled, only on asphalt. It is also different from street luge because while they lie on their backs on the board, Skullboarders lie face down, just like Skeleton sledders on the ice. Claude Gesta developed the sport and has been promoting Skullboard since 2003. Since he lives in the Alps, he has done a lot of snowboarding and experimenting. When the Mont Blanc tunnel was closed due to a fire, a new playground opened for the bold skaters on the asphalt. The longboarders went downhill without having to worry about the traffic. Gesta converted the first Skullboard from a snowboard, but since it was too flexible, they couldn’t go fast enough. It turned a lot with every little movement. The next problem was the break because putting your foot down is quite a dangerous way to stop in this sport, so Claude developed the brake people use today. Gesta first officially presented the device at the 2004 National Championship Kaunertal, and since then, more and more people have been trying this rather daring extreme sport. 

Street Luge

As you have probably guessed, this is a pretty dangerous sport. You could fall big or slide on asphalt at a crazy speed. In 1975, the first competition was at Signal Hill in California, organized by the American Skateboarding Association. The high speed and the simple technique caused many accidents, so they canceled this race in 1978.  However, a few competitors continued the sport, and that’s how Underground Racers Association was born. In the 1980s and 1990s, the organizations introduced several safety regulations and competition rules, thus making the sport safer. Street luge began to spread in Europe after South Africa, Canada, and Australia. In the mid-1990s, they introduced the sport at the X-Games, but unfortunately, they removed it from the program because these competitions became indoor events due to marketing reasons.  Nevertheless, there are hundreds of active competitors today. Races are usually on mountain roads, but urban races also occurred. Tracks are usually between one and five kilometers long, regardless of the number of turns. IGSA organizes competitions worldwide.
