There are a number of major films scheduled to be released this year. Here we take a look at the betting odds for which one will make the most money on opening weekend.

It had been nearly a decade in between the 3rd edition of Star Wars and the most recent 7th edition. Fans of the series were eagerly awaiting how director JJ Abrams would take the new movie, and by the time it was released the excitement was palpable. It went on to become the highest-grossing movie in North American history, and the 3rd highest grossing film of all time.

The 8th edition of Star Wars is now set to be released in December of 2017, and many movie betting experts are predicting it could generate even more money. Most of the cast from episode 7 will be starring in this film, as well as some new additions including Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern.

When considering how much money the last movie made, it’s not much of a surprise that Star Wars Episode 8 is expected to be the highest grossing film of 2017. Bwin Sports lists this movie’s odds to earn the most money at -588.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell no Tales


The fifth installment into the Pirates of the Caribbean is expected to be the last, and according to some, may be which 2017 film has the highest grossing opening weekend. This popular series has already generated massive amounts of revenue. Will the last be the most lucrative? Some online sportsbooks in the UK seem to think so.

This movie will be released on May 26th, and will feature Orlando Bloom reprising his role as William Turner. Other main characters including Johnny Depp and Geoffery Rush will once again be involved in the film, as well as new addition Javier Bardem, who is the film’s villain.

The Pirates series is one of the high-grossing in movie history, but it remains to be seen whether the latest film will be able to generate more money that Star Wars. It’s one of the top betting favorites to have the highest grossing opening weekend with odds of +1100.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2


One of the more surprising movie success stories was how popular Guardians of the Galaxy became. This film was based off a not-so-well-known comic book series, but quickly became one of the highest grossing films of 2014.

Fast forward three years, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is at the top of many people’s list of which 2017 film has the highest grossing opening weekend. Vol. 2 is bringing in another star-studded cast and will surely be a commercial success, but it would make UK gambling news if it manages to make more money than films like Star Wars or Pirates of the Caribbean.

At the moment, Bwin Sports lists Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’s odds to generate the most money opening weekend at +2000.

Kong: Skull Island


The last addition to our list of which 2017 film has the highest grossing opening weekend is Kong: Skull Island. There have been a number of popular King Kong films in the past, but with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts on board and stars like Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson, some are predicting this will be the biggest of them all.
