New Kenyan Gambling Bill May be Cause for Concern

Gambling in Kenya

Gambling operators in Kenya are beginning to worry after a new Kenyan gambling bill was proposed that will significantly increase taxes.

The Kenyan gambling industry is one of the strongest in Africa, but many betting firms in the country are beginning to worry after a new gambling bill was recently proposed. This new Kenyan gambling bill, proposed by Jakoyo Midiwo, will significantly increase taxes for various forms of gambling.

Kenya’s betting tax will raise from 7.5% to 15% of operator’s revenue, the lottery tax will increase from 5% to 20%, and gaming tax will increase from 12% to 20%.

The Association of Gaming Operators of Kenya called the bill “misguided.” Chairman of the group Ronald Karauri commented further, stating “The Bill requires significant amendments. It would not be the same Bill as it was at the first reading. There appears to be a concerted targeting of the industry through measures that are designed to cripple the industry.”

What Gambling Sites are Available in Kenya now?

Luckily for gaming fans, the new Kenyan gambling bill has not yet been passed, and there are still plenty of online gambling sites in Kenya that players can access. In addition to numerous domestic sites, a number of foreign sites are available here.
