No Legal Online Poker in Nebraska in the Near Future

State Senator Tyson Larson introduced the bill supporting legal online poker in Nebraska, but it did not pass the Nebraska State Legislature.

There was a chance last week to regulate legal online poker in Nebraska. The State Senate had the opportunity to redefine online poker as a game of skill. However, as this is the case in most federal states according to US gambling laws, the legislature opted for the old definition. So, according to the decision of the State, legal online poker in Nebraska just won’t happen anytime soon.

State Senator Tyson Larson was the man responsible for introducing the bill supporting legal online poker in Nebraska. He also explained his views on the issue. He said, “We hear a lot about property tax relief, limited government and the state not getting involved. If we care about those issues, here’s an outside-the-box opportunity to show that we take these things seriously. We can help our local communities and their fundraising efforts.”

Legal online poker in Nebraska is not an option at the moment

However, those who opposed legal online poker in Nebraska, emphasized their views about the danger it might bring to the people. Sen. Lydia Brasch said, “We’re going into very dangerous territory here by slowly and surely peeling away that which makes us great, I think this is chance. I’m not willing to bet Nebraska’s future on expanded gambling.”

Larson is likely to give up on the matter. However, several other US politicians revealed earlier that they support the idea of legal online poker in the US. Even Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio, who is an online gambling ban supporter himself, supported the idea of legal online poker in the US. He expressed that he thought that online poker undeniably has an element of skill, distinguishing poker games from other online casino games like online slots.
