With the end of the XII World Poker Tour championship, the new season is on its way and the schedule for it was broadcasted, promising lots of exciting events in plenty of locations.

The World Poker Tour is a prestigious series of international tourneys, and its final table is widely broadcasted on TV. It was started in 2002 in the USA by the TV producer Steven Lipscomb, who was the CEO of the company that controlled WPT up until 2009.

WPT introduced bracelets in 2008, similar to the ones of the World Series of Poker and in 2009 PartyGaming took over and paid the old owners $12,300,000 for the control package and it’s currently a subsidiary of bwin.party digital entertainment plc.

What is even more special about the WPT is its one of a kind television show based on the high-stakes games, which has been broadcasted in more than 150 countries.

Last tournament

The latest WPT World Championship took place last month at Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa, following all US gambling laws, and Keven Stammen emerged as champion. He grabbed the title, $1.35 million first-place prize and his name was carved on the WPT Champions Cup.

The WPT announced the first half of XIII season’s schedule

• It starts in Italy on June 5th

• Then comes London

• Following are Las Vegas, Valencia and Brussels

He also got Hublot Power King Unico Chronograph watch, a pair of Monster 24k headphones and of course an entry into the Season XIII WPT World Championship. Stammen’s monetary prize was the largest first-place payout of Season XII.

Matt Savage, WPT Executive Tour Director, commented on the great game of the final 6 players – Kevin Stammen, Tony Dunst, Byron Kaverman, Curt Kohlberg, Ryan D’Angelo and Abe Korotki.

He said: “From an amazing field we saw six players emerge who have a combined 16 WPT cashes and five WPT final tables this season alone, so this was definitely a hard-fought final table played at the highest level.”

Moreover: “The exciting heads-up battle between two well-liked, and respected, players from the state of Ohio was the perfect end to an incredible tournament and unforgettable season.”

This event was also important for Mukul Pahuja who got the title for WPT Season XII Player of the Year. He grabbed the prestigious title thanks to five times cashing, three final tables, and heads-up for a WPT title on two occasions, earning over $1.4 million this season.

The new season

In total the WPT had 193 champions so far and it is getting ready for XIII season, with 20 events already announced, after Kevin Stammen won the title in April 2014.

The tournament will take place on four different continents, with tailored buy-ins, which are suitable for all players, taking part in various international and US poker rooms. The first half of the season starts in Italy with the Gioco Digitale WPT National Campione on June 5th.

Afterwards comes the PartyPoker WPT National UK in London, followed by Las Vegas, Valencia and Brussels. The first Main Event of Season XIII will be the Legends of Poker event, which will take place in the Bicycle Casino.

Only the first half of the season is already announced, but the WPT organizers are already promising big surprises and great prize pool. Since Season VII, when a couple of records were broken, every following season more and more players are expected to join the poker fiesta.

Savage, commented on the new season: “Coming off a very successful Season XII highlighted by some record-setting numbers and fantastic new locations, the World Poker Tour marches into lucky Season XIII with more new global stops and many of the great tournaments that have made the WPT the most player-friendly tour in poker.”
