As you visit any of the online gambling in the US today you’ll find that everything is all about the Winter Olympics. Actually, it’s no wonder as it’s one of the biggest sports events this winter. What’s more just like the Summer Olympics it only happens every four years so it’s a really big deal. The first-ever Winter Olympic games dates back to 1924.

Can you believe that? It’s nearly a hundred years since it started. It was only interrupted during WW II. The first game had fewer sports than today but still, they were very popular from the start. Since its start, there have been some outstanding moments and right now we are about to tell you about a few of them.

1980: Winter Olympics Best Moments – USA Team Beating the Soviet Union

Without a doubt, the 1980’s Winter Olympics hockey game is still one of the Winter Olympics Best Moments. If you love hockey you know exactly why it was so special. Imagine this: back in 1980 at Lake Placid the world’s best hockey team, the Soviet Union plays against the USA team made up of college players.

So, in a nutshell, the world’s best players were playing against amateurs and there was no question that the Soviet Union would win. However, as we know sometimes miracles do happen. And this time a big miracle happened. The US team beat the Soviets and won the game.

1984: Torvill and Dean’s Romantic Dance to Bolero

This is for sure one of the Winter Olympics best moments. And it’s also one of the most emotional and romantic moments in the history of the Olympics. In 1984 at the Sarajevo Olympics, the British ice-skating superstars Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean made an amazing performance. They skated perfectly, in so beautifully that it was one of the most emotional moments.

What’s more, they danced to Ravel’s “Boléro” and they did it one Valentine’s day making it even more romantic and beautiful. At the end of the course, they took home the gold medal for their performance. To sum it up they remain one of the best and highest-scoring figure skaters to this day.

1988: Eddie the Eagle One of the Winter Olympics Best Moments

As you know there have been some amazing moments in the Winter Olympics regarding outstanding sports performances. What’s more, there have been some super emotional moments that stand out because of that. However, there are simply funny moments and we are about to tell you about one of those. There is a chance you even remember it as it happened back in 1988. Also, the story started back in 1984 when a guy named Michael Edwards didn’t qualify for the GB’s skiing team.

What did he do after that? Well, he decided to choose his own fate and took part in the next Olympics in Calgary in 1988. By then he had many fans cheering for him, even though he finished at last. However, this didn’t change anything. Eddie’s dream came true and he became worldwide famous overnight. All in all, Eddie wouldn’t have been your first choice if there were online gambling in the US back then. Although for sure he was loved by people.

1988: An Other One of the Winter Olympics Best Moments – Jamaica’s Bobsleigh

When it comes to the 1988 Winter Olympics there have been not one but two memorable moments. Apart from Eddie the Eagle’s story this year was the debut of the Jamaican bobsleigh team. And with that, it’s surely one of the Winter Olympics Best Moments.

Possibly the most well-known of them is Jamaica’s debut at the Winter Olympics, due to 1993’s Cool Runnings. This 1988 Jamaican bobsleigh team’s unusual tale was exaggerated by the filmmakers, but the fact was ideal for the big screen.

The ideal representation of the true Olympic spirit is the great friendship displayed by Jamaica’s competitors. The most well-known incidents, though, revolve on Jamaica’s four-man bobsled squad. The four-man team crashed on their third run but was adamant about finishing, so they walked the final distance. The urge to complete what they began is maybe what made the Games what they were.

1992: Midori Ito Performs a Triple Axel

If you like watching ice skating or you do it yourself you know exactly what is a triple axle and how hard it’s to perform it. at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, the worldwide famous Midori Ito managed to land a triple axle perfectly. She had set her eyes on doing the feat at the Olympic level because she was the first woman to land the ground-breaking Triple Axel in a contest four years prior to the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics.

She didn’t let the fact that she had slipped on her initial try discourage her since the second time was flawless. Ito’s silver medal in figure skating at the Winter Olympics was the first for an Asian nation. Since then, just two females have made the incredible leap at the Olympic level.
