Many sports are popular in the world, such as baseball and volleyball. However, some sports seem strange at first glance. It may seem bizarre, but some people take these sports seriously, even organizing world championships. Now we will list the weirdest ball games in the world that you have not seen before.

Speedgate - Created by artificial intelligence

Many of the most popular sports these days are hundreds, if not thousands of years old, but they were all invented by humans. Now, we have Speedgate, put together by an AI. The algorithm mixed up four hundred games and created quite a few new sports, a couple of which was impossible to play, but they selected three of them in the end. Of those, Speedgate came out as the winner.  The AI created the logo and the motto as well, which sounds a little funny. It says: “face the ball to be the ball to be above the ball”. The program came up with the following rules: two teams of six play the game, with three gates on the 45-meter-long field, similarly divided as an ice hockey rink, a center, and two eng gates. These gates have no net between the poles so that they can get the ball through them.

.

To score a goal in the end gate, you need to get the ball through the center gate first. It is crucial that only the ball can cross the center gate and that the players can’t run on the court. The rugby ball can be moved with both hands and feet, but the players must move continuously, and the ball can’t remain in one place for more than three seconds. Weirdest ball games in the world - Sepak takraw

Sepak takraw is a Far Eastern sport with a history of more than 500 years. Usually, two teams of 3-3 players play against each other on a field similar to a volleyball court. The point of the game is the same. They have to pass the ball over the net at about 1,5 meter high, so it lands in the opponent's half of the court. The ball used to be bamboo, but it is more often made of plastic nowadays.  The real specialty of the sport is that the players are capable of incredible movements, similar to martial arts. Real professionals try to get the point with unbelievably spectacular spins, kicks, and somersaults. The whole thing can be described as a mixture of martial arts and a ball game. Polo sports

Polo sports have become more popular than ever around the world. Almost every country has professional polo teams, where four each gallop on horseback and try to get the ball into the opponent's goal with their long racket as many times as possible. Usually, they play on a big grass court, 270 meters long and 180 meters wide, in four or six 7-minute halves. However, this is not why polo is one of the weirdest ball games in the world. Let’s see the unique versions of polo! The ground rules are the same, athletes sit on an animal and try to get the ball into the opponent's goal with a racket. Though, can you imagine the same sport with elephants or camels? It’s hard to believe, but it really exists and is very popular in several countries like India, Nepal, and Thailand. The basic rules and protective equipment are the same as those in traditional polo. However, a significant difference is that while in the former, only one rider sits on a horse, in the case of elephants, one athlete is controlling the elephant, and another handling the bat.  A maybe even more surprising alternative is the camel polo. In this type, the rules are the same as in the original version, but here, as with the elephant polo, two players sit on the animal. One controls, and one, ideally, scores goals. The location is not surprising since it is a popular recreation in the Arab region. In Dubai, many tourists try this weird ball sport. In Mongolia, as part of a winter festival, you can indulge in the camel polo game.

Weirdest ball games in the world - Cycle polo

We love cycling, but can you imagine trying to hit a ball with a stick while cycling? Moreover, it is not enough to hit it, you also have to get it to the finish line! People started to play it in Ireland at the end of the 19th century. Since then, the popularity of the sport has experienced ups and downs, but today it is well-loved in several countries. For example, in the UK, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Pakistan, and Switzerland, among others. So it’s worth checking out these at Bet-at-home Sportsbook!

Cycling + soccer = Cycle-ball

For some, even riding a bike is a challenge, but for those who love a bit of an extreme sport, cycle-ball might be the perfect sport. However, it is hard to imagine how you can cycle and play football at the same time! The rules of the cycle ball are different from those of soccer, especially since they cannot use their legs in the game at all. The players have to pass the ball with some part of the bicycle. The competition track is the size of a standard indoor cycling track for cycle-ball and artistic cycling. The size of the gate is 2x2 meters.    The ball is solid and weighs around 500 g, its diameter is 17-18 cm, and the inside is filled with wood shavings and horse hair. It’s incredible that when they hit the ball, its speed can reach 70-80 km/h. It is allowed to maneuver the ball with the bicycle wheels and the body, of course, without using hands and feet. The hands must always hold the steering wheel, while the feet must remain on the pedals constantly, but the heading is acceptable. Teams consist of 2, 5, or 6 riders, who can change their positions freely if necessary.  The playing time is 2×7 minutes in the adult category, and there is a break between the two halves, which is two minutes long, after which the teams change sides. The goalkeeper can hold the ball with their hands. The opponent can only enter the penalty area if the ball is also inside and, even then, only one attacker. If the attacking player goes in without the ball, in that case, the defending team takes a free kick, and don’t forget that they do this while riding a bike!
