Most forms of gambling are legal inside Burkina Faso. This country is one of the poorest in the world, but many locals still enjoy wagering their money in a variety of ways.

Casino gambling is legal and regulated here. Any casino establishments must obtain a license from the Ministry of Finance, and pay a fee of about $9000. Information on exactly how many licensed casinos exist here is limited, although it has been reported that a few are operating in the capital city of Ouagadougou.

There is only one licensed sports betting company in Burkina Faso, called LONAB. As of July 2016, LONAB only offers betting lines on horse racing, but it appears they are looking to expand into football betting as well.

LONAB also runs the only lottery inside of Burkina Faso. They offer scratch cards and weekly televised draws. The government heavily taxes winners, and the money goes towards social and economic projects such as youth sports and hospitals.

Online Gambling in Burkina Faso

Online gambling is currently unregulated in Burkina Faso. It has not been deemed illegal by the government, and a gambling could likely operate here if it obtained a license and paid the mandatory fees. Internet use is very low here at just 4.4%, and it may be some time before a local gambling website begins running from within the country.
