Gambling in Cameroon
In Cameroon, most forms of gambling are legal, but not necessarily regulated. The Cameroon government is considering instituting news laws to regulate gambling activities in the country, but as of June 2016 these have not yet been passed. The current laws were established under the 2005 Finance Law to license and tax gambling operators.
Almost all forms of traditional gambling are legal in Cameroon including casinos, poker, and sports betting. Betting on sports is likely the most popular form of gambling in the country, particularly for football and horse racing.
Online Gambling in Cameroon
Neither the original gambling laws of 1989 or the revamped laws of 2005 have made any mention of internet gambling in Cameroon. Online gambling is largely unregulated here, but is tolerated by the government.
As of June 2016 there are no online gambling websites in Cameroon. This should not stop players here from gambling online however, as a number of foreign gambling websites accept Cameroonians.
Gambling online has not gained much popularity in Cameroon, and much of the population (93.6%) does not have access to internet. This will likely change in the future, and it may not be long before a local gambling website begins operating here.
