Gambling in the Central African Republic

The Central African Republic is one of the poorest countries in the world, with an average annual salary of just $857. Despite this, gambling is regulated here, and the government has clear rules that gambling establishments much follow.

Casino gambling is legal in the Central African Republic. For a casino to operate here, they would need to obtain a license from the government and pay annual fees. As of July 2016, there does not appear to be any casinos inside the CAR. Punishments for running or gambling at an unlicensed casino can include heavy fines and up to five years in prison.

Sports betting has not been specifically mentioned in any of the Central African Republic’s gambling laws. There are likely a number of unlicensed sportsbooks in the country that will offer betting lines for sports such as football and rugby, but none of these are regulated by the government.

The CAR also allows for lottery companies to operate inside the country as long as they obtain a license. There does not appear to be any national lotteries in place at the moment, but that could change in the next couple of years.

 

Online Gambling in the Central African Republic

Online gambling has not been mentioned in any of the CAR’s gambling laws. Internet use is extremely low here at just 3.5%, making this country a weak market for gambling websites.

As of July 2016, there are no online gambling sites in the CAR. There are, however, a number of foreign gambling sites that will accept players from here. Some of these sites include online poker, online sports betting, and online lottery games.
