In Equatorial Guinea, gambling is legal and regulated. This country has a fairly high GDP of about $20,500, despite a number of human rights abuses. Gambling is well regulated here, especially compared to some of its neighboring countries.
Gambling became regulated in Equatorial Guinea in 1995 under the Juegos de Recreo y de Azar. Under these laws, gambling is legal and regulated, but only inside of licensed gambling establishments.
Casino gambling is legal and regulated here. For casino to operate here, they must first obtain a license from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Once a casino has been licensed, they may offer a number of slot machines and table games.
Surprisingly, sports betting is not regulated in Equatorial Guinea, despite a large number of passionate sports fans here. There are currently no sports betting companies operating from within the country, although some reports the government is considering starting a national sportsbook inside the capital city of Malabo.
Lottery gambling is legal and regulated inside of Equatorial Guinea. The laws here state that lotto companies in Equatorial Guinea can apply for a license, but as of September 2016, no such sites have done this. The only land-based lottery that locals can play here is the Spanish Christmas Lottery.
Online Gambling in Equatorial Guinea
Online gambling is not currently regulated inside of Equatorial Guinea. Internet use inside the country is fairly low at around 17%. None of the country’s laws mention internet gambling, and it is unclear whether the Ministry of Culture and Tourism would issue licenses to online gambling sites.
As of September 2016, there are no internet gambling sites in Equatorial Guinea.
