With the WGA nominations unveiled very recently, it is exciting to look at the 2021 WGA awards odds of the potential winners. The contest seems tough for this year’s major categories like the best original and adapted screenplays, and best series drama. However, you will probably have your favorite after scrolling through the list of nominees.
The 73rd annual Writers Guild Awards virtual ceremony is coming up on 21 March. It will honor the best outstanding writing in film, television, new media, news, radio/audio, and promotional categories. As the nominees have been announced just recently, it became well-known that this year’s ineligible list of contestants is massive. High-profile films such as ‘Mank’, ‘Nomadland’, ‘The Father’, and ‘Minari’ have been all excluded. The reason is that they fall out of the WGA minimum basic agreement.
But what about the eligible and nominated ones? Well, like online sportsbook news sites in the United States reported, the list is also massive and intriguing. There are several contenders with great 2021 WGA awards odds in each category. Here is our look at the three major categories.
‘One Night in Miami’ the movie to beat for best adapted screenplay
The five contenders at 2021 WGA awards odds for the Best adapted screenplay include ‘Borat 2’ with 13 value at 22BET Sportsbook. The film sees Sacha Cohen reprise his buffoon Kazakhstani journalist character from his 2006 movie. Cohen and some of his friends received a nomination for the previous movie only to lose against ‘The Departed’. But, this time they are confident that they have a chance.
‘ One Night in Miami’ is another movie in the category but with the best odds of 1.53. The fictitious movie about Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, Jim Brown, and Cassius Clay is the movie to beat for this category. It has already received nominations for the Critics Choice, Golden Globe, and SAG awards.
‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ starring Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman with 2.75 is among strong contenders. In addition, there is ‘News of the World’ (13) and ‘The White Tiger’ (19) competing in the same category but with less chance of winning.
2021 WGA awards odds for best original screenplay
‘Judas and the Black Messiah’ directed by Shaka King is the film to pick for the best original screenplay with 11 odds at online sportsbooks in the United States. It is about the Black Panther Party leader Fred Hampton and his betrayal by an FBI informant. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya who is hopeful to win at the 2021 SAG awards betting odds.
‘Black Messiah’ is challenged by ‘Sound of Metal’ another movie garnering attention with 13 odds. Besides, the other contenders are ‘Promising Young Woman’ the black comedy (2.4), and ‘Chicago 7’ a Vietnam War-era legal drama (1.7). What is more, ‘Palm Springs’ a genre darling since it debuted in July on Hulu is the last contender with the least chance at 21.
All contestants for best series drama have a chance to win
In this category, almost all five contenders have a great chance of winning, which makes it very tough to predict. There is the ‘Better Call Saul’ show (4) that has a lot of support from the fans of similar shows like Breaking Bad. Then, there are the two Netflix shows ‘The Crown’ (1.8) and ‘Ozark’ (4) which are both competing for the Golden Globe. If you wish you can also see their Golden Globe odds and bet on the best TV drama series. Not to mention ‘The Boys’ (15) and ‘The Mandalorian’ (11) which are also very quality contenders.
