  • Max Bounds Ahead In Championship
Those who like to bet on sports in the US will find the odds on the United States Grand Prix tempting. Online bookies in the US like Bovada are offering very similar odds on the two championship rivals. So, you can either bet on Red Bull and back Max Verstappen, or bet on Mercedes and back Lewis Hamilton. Now Mercedes like the Circuit of the Americas, they win there a lot, but Max Verstappen didn’t have a spat with his pit crew in Turkey, did he?

Both drivers dismiss the idea they’re under pressure in a denial of reality that even Boris Johnson would find astonishing. However in Turkey we saw the thin veneer of calm fall away. Should Lewis have come in or stayed out? Would the tires have lasted or would he have lost the places anyway? Who was right and who was wrong? Naturally you can bet on Mercedes to have already sorted that out, but the result stands. Lewis Hamilton is now six points adrift in the championship. That might not sound like a lot but in a championship this close it’s a big deal. Hamilton’s radio response and subsequent hand wringing is a reflection of just how big. Was it the pressure or just a bad call? You can bet on Mercedes to perform a stern post-mortem to find out. On paper they’re the best bet on the US Grand Prix. They’ve won here lots before and online betting sites in the US like Bovada give them the best US Grand Prix odds. But what if they just under perform?

Austin Awaits F1 Championship Rivals

You can bet on Mercedes writing off what happened in Turkey as a communication issue. Obviously, Lewis might think there were other causes, but who knows? We’ll soon see. At the Circuit of the Americas they’ll have nowhere to hide. Any failing will stand out as if lit by neon. This is their track. But…remember when they messed up Lewis’ second pit stop in 2018? They do that again and you can bet on Red Bull seizing the chance to move Max even further ahead.
2021 US Grand Prix Odds
  • Anyone Else – 100/1
  • Carlos Sainz – 66/1
  • Charles Leclerc – 40/1
  • Lando Norris – 40/1
  • Sergio Perez – 18/1
  • Valtteri Bottas – 14/1
  • Max Verstappen – 11/8
  • Lewis Hamilton – 5/6
Red Bull were happy enough with their dual podium finish in Turkey. However, they’ll be targeting nothing less than a win in the US. Party to edge ahead some more, but mostly because of the psychological damage it’ll do to Mercedes. Online sportsbook sites in the US like Bovada will re-evaluate their odds on the F1 Drivers Championship fast if Max wins in Austin. But can you really bet on Max Verstappen to win the US Grand Prix? Or is a bet on Mercedes irresistible?

Well the odds on Max Verstappen are hovering at around 11/8 right now on sites like Bovada. That really isn’t too far off the 5/6 they’re offering on Lewis Hamilton. The bookies know full well that there is very little between these two cars, and that fate will play a part in every race now. Sure you can bet on Lewis Hamilton pushing it as far as it’ll go, but Max will do the same. Just don’t bet on Mercedes to push Lewis on his tire assessments. They’ll steer clear of that.
F1 Drivers Championship Odds
  • Odds On Max Verstappen – 4/6
  • Odds On Lewis Hamilton – 5/4
Unlike Max. You can pretty much guarantee Max Verstappen referring to it, if only obliquely. Both drivers enjoy the passive-aggressive back-and-forth in the media nearly as much as the driving these days. They know every little troll helps. Of course, on the day, it’ll be the team with the fewest gremlins that will prove best to take advantage of US gambling laws to back. Just don’t actually expect anyone to know which one it’ll be. Not this year. It’s simply too close to call.
