What Is Critical Role?

Critical roles are everyone’s favorite show. Run by Matt Mercer, it collects some of the most talented voice actors in our world. Their summary of what the show is is; “Nerdy-ass voice actors playing Dungeons & Dragons” however. The humble attitude and absolute professionalism have paid out. You can even bet on them at online sportsbook sites in the US!

From a little Youtube/Twitch D&D campaign, it grew out as the actual top-viewed channel. It is a whole television show with its broadcasting schedule. A huge company that now raises charity. In this show, the following voice actors are playing the main campaigns:

  • Matt Mercer – Dungeon Master (Levi Ackerman)
  • Laura Bailey (Jaina)
  • Travis Willingham (Dragon Ball Z)
  • Taliesin Jaffe (Blanka)
  • Liam O’Brien (Gaara/Illidan)
  • Sam Riegel (Phoenix Wright)
  • Ashley Johnson (Ellie, Last of Us)
  • Marisha Ray (Margaret, Persona 4)
  • Robbie Daymond (Toneri Ōtsutsuki)

The Gambit Of Ord – Gambling In Critical Role

The Gambit of Ord is a game invented by Matt Mercer. This is one of those games that keeps returning to the world of Critical Role. According to Reddit, the man himself, Matt Mercer has posted all the rules for the games.

There is a 50g buy-in. You have to roll 1d8 for each card player, while they are keeping the die hidden. Each player has a chance to raise the bet, call the bet, or fold it. It continues when all bets are equal. Then each player has to roll a 1d6, keeping it a secret as well. A final chance to raise, call, or fold. Each remaining player rolls 1d4, and they all reveal all their results, adding them together. The winner takes 80% of the pot (20% to the casino). Ties will split 80%. Sleight of Hand can give a reroll, deception can force a fold.

Luck’s Run Casino – Vox Machina And Games

According to Citroen, the first season is available in a fully animated series on Amazon Prime Video. Therefore, it’s time to discuss gambling in a Critical Role from the beginning. Let’s start by saying that the whole show is heavily oriented toward gambling elements. As the ‘take the chance and roll the dice’ slogan is pretty intensive. Generally, Dungeons & Dragons itself relies on luck. After impressing J’mon Sa Ord in Ank’Harel.

They have decided to enter the Luck’s Run Casino. While they didn’t play the games in this scene, we got to discover a society where gambling is rather cherished. Furthermore, we had earlier instances before the group removed Orion when his Dragonborn was still in the party. – If you are interested in our world’s hidden casino gems. City Of Flowing Light

Gambling in a Critical Role is pretty common. But why? Because in a game of Dungeons & Dragons, gambling scenes are the perfect mix of the challenge of combat, yet the calmness of social encounters. Furthermore, players may win significant amounts of cash for lucky rolls or nice cheats. This is why the party has returned to the City of Flowing Lights in Season 3, Episode 42. The party has entered a casino, and they realize that the guards are watching them.

However, Faern suggested they should cheat by sending someone to the other side of the table with invisibility. They decided to not do that, to avoid the attention of the guards. The available games were; Griffon’s Wall, which is a D&D blackjack game. And of course, the famous Gambit of Ord. According to Nerdist, you can run these games in your campaign too! Chetney won 508 gold.

The Traveler And Trickery Domain Jester

Before we proceed to more gambling scenes. Let me mention that it seems that all player characters are the type to enjoy gambling in general. For example, we had Mollymauk, who had his tarot cards, and of course, he was a fine gambler and celebrant. Furthermore, we had Fjord who loves to take chances and his confidence can shake opponents. But one who takes the cake is Jester, played by Laura Bailey.

She was playing one of the Dungeons And Dragons gambler builds and she was not afraid to use it. One of her greatest gambles was when they visited a hag, and she decided to modify her memory by making her eat a cupcake. This cupcake was sprinkled with the Dust of Deliciousness, which gave the hag a disadvantage on her Wisdom saving throws. It became the most iconic moment in the show.

The Marquet – Gambling In Critical Role

Now that we have discussed most of these scenes. Let me mention The Marquette. This is a whole island that was generally dedicated to trade and gambling. Therefore, the whole area had a bunch of adventures for the party. But generally speaking, we can certainly see that Matt Mercer had Dungeons And Dragons gambling ideas which he wanted to turn into something like a combat-soft area.

The Marquet has introduced gambling games such as lizard racing. Furthermore, the party got to walk around the market and buy things. It held much more than that. But if you want to make a world where gambling is a core part of society. Then you should start by watching the Marquet episodes from Critical Role.
