Finnish man becomes 17.8 million Euros richer in a few seconds.

A middle aged man playing at an online casino from Finland bagged a record breaking 17.8 million Euro jackpot on January 20th.

He did this at Mega Fortune, an online progressive jackpot slot game, which is very popular with players and which was also responsible for the previous record in September 2011. At that time luck smiled an 11.7 million Euro smile on a Norwegian student, just past his teens.

While the winnings may incur an income tax under Finnish gambling laws, the remaining net amount is likely to be larger than the whole pre-tax total of the previous record.

Mega Fortune is operated by Sweden-based online casino software provider Net Entertainment, which also commented on the incredible amount. “This win is completely off the charts for these kinds of games. The whole gaming world has been holding its breath during this fall and winter, while the jackpot has just kept on growing,” stated press and public relations head Anders Sims.

Company CEO, Per Eriksson took the opportunity to get an inviting message out there: “The large liquidity within the slots with progressive jackpots enables the growth of these jackpots, which is great news for the operators. We want to congratulate the winner of this record jackpot and hope to turn many more players into millionaires in the future.”

With sums of this size being doled out, further players are expected to try their luck at Mega Fortune, significantly increasing the chances of another record breaking jackpot making online gambling news in the next year or two.
