  • Live darts return in July
  • PDC World Matchplay is scheduled 18-26 July in Blackpool
  • Michael van Gerwen is the favorite, all top players will be there
Live PDC darts is scheduled to return in July with the Summer Series. But the first big event would be the PDC World Matchplay between the 18th and 26th of July with 32 players taking part in it. The PDC World Matchplay winner odds favor Michael van Gerwen to win but other top players like the current PDC world champion Peter Wright will also be there.  Even though the details and even the location is not confirmed, fans are getting excited about the return of live competitions in PDC. There is a chance that they can even enjoy the games live from Winter Gardens, in Blackpool. But even if the event will be held behind closed doors, it is a big competition where the best players compete. The World Matchplay is considered as the second biggest PDC tournament. Rob Cross is the defending champion, but van Gerwen, Gary Anderson and James Wade have also won the tournament before.

PDC World Matchplay winner odds predict van Gerwen’s victory

Online sportsbooks in the UK are giving the smallest odds, 2.75 at Bet365 Sportsbook for the victory of Michael van Gerwen. The Dutch player leads the PDC Order of Merit, which is the base of the invite for the tournament. The 3-time world champion had his last competition in the UK Open in March which he won. In the break he didn’t take part in home tournaments, so we can’t be sure of his form. But as he said he is hungry to return to competing now, which might mean another win.
PDC World Matchplay Winner Odds
These are the current odds.
His biggest rival can be Peter Wright who managed to defeat him in the final of the 2020 PDC World Championship. Following that he also won his first Masters title, so for him the break might have come at the worst time. He took part in the PDC Home Tournament but he couldn’t qualify from his group. But he is generally playing well on the World Matchplay. Last year he played an epic match against Daryl Gurney in the quarter-final, who beat him 16-13 at the end. Now he can even top this result and finally win the tournament. He has the odds of 6.00 at Be365 Sportsbook to do so.

Defending champion Rob Cross is not in the top five

Rob Cross is the defending champion but PDC World Matchplay winner odds are only giving him the odds of 21.00. The 2018 world champion is not in his best form this year. He only reached the 2nd rounds in the World Championship, and was out in the first round in the Masters. But he got to the last eight in the Home Tour, finishing last in his group there.  Another former Matchplay winner, Gary Anderson has slightly better odds, 11.00 at Bet365 Sportsbook to win again. The Flying Scotsman was giving a solid performance in the tournaments he competed this year. He reached the 4th round in the World Championship. Also the 6th round in the UK Open and the semi-final of the Masters. Even got to the last 4 in the Home Tournament, where he finished as a runner-up behind Nathan Aspinall. Online gambling sites in the UK are also mentioning the young player in the favorites to win with the odds of 10.00. He is having his best season so far. After reaching the semi-finals of both the World Championship and the Masters and winning the Home Tournament. So might be a surprise favorite on the World Matchplay as well.
