PokerStars Earns Sports Betting License in Denmark

PokerStars, an Amaya Inc. brand is entering the Danish sports betting market with a one-year license.

PokerStars announced that the Spillemyndigheden (Danish Gambling Authority) has granted them a temporary one-year sports betting license. The popular gambling site has also shared their plan to acquire a full five-year license. Their sports betting services will launch soon, and they might be followed by casino games, later in 2016.

According to the vice president of corporate communications for Amaya, Eric Hollreiser, sports betting is a popular pastime for sports fans. It “provides a way for them to put their passion and knowledge to the test in competition with friends and other fans.” He added that the company is a committed supporter of “local regulation that protects players, creates a viable, competitive marketplace and provides revenue for local governments.”
