The Zozo Championship is a relatively new tournament in the PGA Tour after the first edition was held only three years ago, in 2019. Tiger Woods won the inaugural tournament which was also the first PGA Tour event in Japan. The next year, the championship was moved to California but it returned back to the Asian country last year. Hideki Matsuyama won the last competition and will try to defend his title now. But he won’t have an easy job in the strong field including the highest-ranked player, Xander Schauffele. And other top 20 players like Collin Morikawa, Viktor Hovland, and Cameron Young. The tournament is co-sanctioned by the Japan Golf Tour so additional local players will also compete at the Narashino Country Club near Tokyo.

Schauffele Leads the 2022 Zozo Championship Winner Odds

Xander Schauffele had a very successful last season after winning three tournaments: the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, the Travelers Championship, and the Genesis Scottish Open. He will make his first appearance in the new season at the Zozo Championship as the top favorite of the event. Online sportsbooks in the US offer the smallest odds, +800.00 for his victory. The 28-year-old American golfer currently is in sixth place in the world rankings, but he only finished here T28 last year. Still, based on his recent form at the Presidents Cup, he can fight for the title this time.

Sungjae Im follows Schauffele in the 2022 Zozo Championship winner odds. He has an odds of +1000.00 to get his third PGA Tour title. The young South Korean player hasn’t gotten any wins since last October but he finished T3 in this tournament in 2019. Im also finished T2 on three occasions in the summer including the season-ending Tour Championship. While he was 7th in the Shriners Children’s Open last weekend. The defending champion, Hideki Matsuyama is very strong on this course. Besides his victory last year, he also finished as a runner-up in the first edition behind Tiger Woods. The 2021 Masters champion won in Hawaii at the beginning of the year. But he hasn’t been in top form since. His odds to get his 9th PGA Tour title now are +1200.00.

Morikawa, Kim, and Young are among other top contenders

Collin Morikawa will make his third appearance in the Zozo Championship after a T22 and T7 finishes. The two-time major champion hasn’t won any tournaments last season but he finished as a runner-up on two occasions. The 25-year-old US player will start his new season in Japan with odds of +1400.00 to win the event. Online gambling sites in the US offer the same odds for the victory of his compatriot, Cameron Young. The world No16 hasn’t got any PGA Tour win yet, but he was brilliant at majors last season. After he finished second at The Open Championship and T3 at the PGA Championship. Young also got three T2 and one T3 finish in his debut season.

Another rising star of the sport is Kim Joo-hyung, also known as Tom Kim, who won his first PGA Tour title this August at the Wyndham Championship. The 20-year-old Korean player continued the new season in a similar form and won the Shriners Children’s Open last weekend. In spite of his young age, Kim also took part in this year’s Presidents Cup and was one of the star players of the event. His odds to win in Japan now are also +1400.00.

A much more experienced player, Keegan Bradley has already played in this tournament twice so far. He finished T13 in 2019 and T7 last year. The 36-year-old US player hasn’t won in the PGA Tour since 2018, but he finished T2 in the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship. Bradley also played well in the Sanderson Farms Championship two weeks ago. And has an odds of +3300.00 on BetOnline to win his fifth PGA Tour title.
