Check out our guide to the best Davis Cup odds before the “World Cup of tennis” starts again this weekend!

As tennis is played by individuals not teams, it can be painfully unpredictable for those who like to bet on sports. However, a few times a year this changes: players who spend the rest of their seasons toiling alone join up with their countrymen to compete in the closest thing that tennis has to a World Cup.

Best Davis Cup odds at Bwin Sports!

  • Great Britain to Win Davis Cup at 16.00 (17/1)
  • Belgium to qualify for next round at 3.25 (9/4)
  • France to win Davis Cup at 3.00 (4/1) – Best odds!

This weekend sees the first round of the Davis Cup World Group, where sixteen nations play off to be crowned overall champions. Last year, Great Britain made gambling news by triumphing despite beginning the year as 34.00 (33/1) outsiders. They will only be better this season, and they are temptingly priced to retain their crown at 16.00 (17/1) at Bwin Sports
.

Serbia lead the best Davis Cup odds outrights round-up

Some big names didn’t fully commit last season: Murray’s greatest rivals, Djokovic and Federer, both missed important ties. The betting markets don’t expect an easy run for GB again, though; Serbia are clear favourites at not-so-tempting prices. However, Djokovic was almost invincible in slams this year and if he commits to the Davis Cup, Bwin Sports’
odds of 3.00 (2/1) could be the equivalent of printing money!

Another country to watch out for is Australia, a young and powerful team featuring the ever-improving Nick Kyrgios. They are 8.50 (15/2) to win the Cup, a title they haven’t claimed since 2003. France have waited even longer since their last triumph; the perennial underachievers haven’t won since 2001. They have a very strong team, though, and are 4.00 (3/1) to finally get their act together this year.

Exciting weekend of first round action awaits

The standout tennis clash this weekend is Australia versus the US. Nick Kyrgios has pulled out through injury, meaning that legend, and new Australian Davis Cup Captain, Lleyton Hewitt may be forced to come out of retirement! The former Davis Cup winner, who made his supposedly final professional appearance at January’s Australian open, may struggle to get back in the playing rhythm but he’s sure to fire up the local crowds. Back the Aussies to get past a likely overawed USA, at 2.10 (11/10) over at Bwin Sports
.

Another team that will have to contend with fanatical opposition supporters are Japan, as they face 2015 champions Great Britain in Birmingham. Japan have top talent themselves in the form of Kei Nishikori. It could be that expectation gets to the British; back Japan to qualify for the next round at 4.00 (5/1).

Back the favourites to ease through their first round ties

Kazakhstan isn’t the best known of tennis nations, despite featuring Mikhail Kukushkin and Andrey Golubev, who have both spent time in the ATP top 50. They aren’t likely to improve their reputation this weekend, though; Serbia are 1.02 (1/50) favourites, for good reason.

France provide only a slightly more tempting safe bet this weekend, priced at 1.05 (1/20) to win against Canada. And don’t be fooled by Switzerland’s deceptively appealing odds of 8.50 (15/2) to qualify at the expense of Italy. They’ll be without stalwarts Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka.

Unheralded ties provide the best Davis Cup odds this weekend

Clashes between less familiar tennis nations provide the best Davis Cup odds this weekend. Croatia have Marin Cilic, a Grand Slam winner, and Borna Coric, who is heralded as a potential Slam champ of the future. However, their opponents Belgium reached the final last year and that experience makes them an appealing choice to go win at 3.25 (9/4).

Poland versus Argentina could also be a tight affair. Poland feature the unpredictable Jerzy Janovicz, while Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer won all six of his Davis Cup matches last year. This is too close to call, so Poland’s status as 2.60 (8/5) underdogs makes them our choice.

The final tie features Germany and the Czech Republic; nobody expects these nations to challenge for the overall title, but they should still provide plenty of drama. The Czechs have mercurial talents Jiri Vesely and Lucal Rosol, bolstered by the ageing Radek Stepanek. Their opponents star rising talent Alexander Zverev, while if you bet on sports in Germany, you’ll know how unpredictable Dustin Brown is. He can beat anyone on his day, and could prove the difference if he’s fired up this weekend.
