The last seven days saw no end of news stories breaking so let’s take a look back at some of the most important

Europe’s ongoing migrant crisis continued last week with Hungary, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia bearing the brunt of the influx of refugees from the Middle East trying to reach Germany which is itself struggling to cope with the massive numbers of refugees seeking asylum in the country that offered them refuge from war. Angela Merkel’s government, along with several others, have re-instituted border controls calling into question the open-border Schengen Agreement.

In Japan, after days of furious debate in the upper house of Parliament, the government of Shinzo Abe was able to fend off numerous stalling tactics from opposition groups and parties to pass a new security bill that would permit Japanese military forces to be deployed overseas for the first time since the Second World War. The controversial bill sparked demonstrations in the streets of Tokyo, no-confidence motions from the opposition parties, and outrage from China.

Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump mired himself in yet more controversy in the US last week after he failed to correct one of his supporters who stated that President Barack Obama was a Muslim and “not even an American” at a rally in New Hampshire on Thursday. Refusing to apologize Mr. Trump said it was “not his job” to defend the president and that there was no chance Mr. Obama would defend him were the situation reversed.

In Sport Sebastian Vettel won the Singapore Grand Prix after an action packed nighttime race on the flood lit street circuit. Defending world champion, and championship leader, Lewis Hamilton retired from the race with technical issues whilst team mate Nico Rosberg failed to make the pace. Question is, does this spell the end of Mercedes dominance in Formula One or will they be back with a vengeance? You’ll have to read our daily news pages to find out. In the meantime here’s the big stories we covered over the last seven days.

Meanwhile in the UK one Daniel Medforth found himself in hospital for two days after five days of constant erections following his rather poor decision to take 35 Viagra tablets. “I ended up feeling sick, dizzy and hallucinating, everything I saw was green.” Said Medforth, “and I had an massive erection that would not go away. The paramedics were very professional but you could see they were trying not to laugh. Fortunately my wife has forgiven me and I realize I have been very, very lucky.”
