Munich will host a big sporting event 50 years after the 1972 Olympic Games. Though it’s a much smaller competition, we can still watch some of the best athletes in the world. From Olympic champions to rising stars of their sports. This will be the second edition of the European Championships following the inaugural edition four years ago. Then Glasgow and Berlin organized the events. Now Munich will be the only host. Athletes from the following 9 Olympic sports will compete in the event: athletics, beach volleyball, canoe sprint, cycling, gymnastics, rowing, sport climbing, table tennis, and triathlon. The 2022 European Championships is held between 11-21 August, at several different venues. Including the famous Olympia station which will host some of the best track and field athletes on the continent.

Duplantis, Mihaimbo and Marcell Jakobs Are Some of the Top Athletes in Munich 2022

Let’s start with the best track and field athletes who will compete in Munich. At the moment one of the biggest stars of the sport is Armand “Mondo” Duplantis, who won his only missing title in the World Athletics Championships a few weeks ago. The Swedish pole vaulter is the reigning Olympic and European champion who also holds the world record with 6,21m. He is the top favorite to defend his title and probably set a new world record as well. Online sportsbooks in Germany also expect their favorite, Malaika Mihambo to win the women’s long jump. The 28-year-old athlete also won the gold at the Olympics and the last two World Championships.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6ng0aowmnM Not everyone was so successful in Oregon though from the reigning Olympic champions. The 100m winner Marcell Jakobs had to pull out from the semi-finals. While the reigning Olympic champion in 400m hurdles, Karsten Warholm finished only 7th. He and his compatriot, Jakob Ingebritsen can get a much better result now. Both Norwegians are two of the top athletes at Munich 2022. Just like British runner Dina Asher-Smith who won the bronze medal in 200m in Oregon. And fellow Team GB runner Jake Whiteman who managed to win the 1500m ahead of Ingebritsen.

Olympic Champions Will also Compete in Munich

We can also find reigning Olympic champions in the field of other sports like cycling and canoeing. Tom Pidcock won the gold in the men’s and Swiss Jolanda Neff in the women’s mountain bike in Tokyo. Now both of them will try to win the European title as well. British cycling legend Laura Kenny will compete in track cycling with the aim of adding more medals to her stunning collection. Dutch Harrie Lavreysen also got two gold from Tokyo besides his 9 World and five European Championships titles. He will be another cyclist to watch at the Messe Munchen.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9eOVbyt8z0 Slovenian Janja Garnbret is only 23 years old, but she has already won six sports climbing world titles and the Olympic gold medal. Now she can add more European Championship titles to her single one from 2017. Norway might not come to your mind as a beach volleyball power, but their pair of Anders Mol and Cristian Sorum are the Olympic champions. They are also four-time European champions and the favorites to win the title again. In gymnastics, Olympic floor champion Artem Dolgopyat from Israel can defend his European title next weekend. While the members of the British Olympic bronze medalist women’s team, Jennifer and Jessica Gadirova can fight for the gold this time.

German Chances for the Medals

On the water, German canoeists can bring further good results with the help of the supportive home fans. Sebastian Brendel-Tim Hecker can fight for the gold medal in C-2 1000m, Max Hoff-Jacob Schopf in K-2 1000m. While Hungarian Olympic champions Balint Kopasz and Sandor Totka are the top favorites in K-1 1000m and in K-1 200m. Online gambling sites in Germany also expect a good performance from the German table tennis players after they won the men’s and women’s singles titles in the previous European championships two years ago. Along with the women’s doubles and mixed doubles titles.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozXN-ucJc0E 2012 Olympic silver medalist gymnast Marcel Nguyen will compete in his last tournament and surely wants a memorable farewell. The former Olympic champion in beach volleyball, Kira Walkenhorst will make her return following a five-year break. Another possible gold can come from the pair of Svenja Muller and Cinja Tillmann. After they won a bronze in the Beach Volleyball World Championships earlier this year. While 22-year-old Lara Lessmann can also win a medal in BMX Freestyle. She won the silver in the 2018 World Championships and will be a top favorite on home soil now.
