After William Hill agreed with the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), it was announced that the gambling operator remains the major World Darts Championship sponsor.
William Hill and the PDC struck a five-year deal about the title sponsorship of the event, UK gambling news report. Thus the land-based and online gambling company retains its title sponsorship until 2020. The official name of the tournament will remain William Hill World Darts Championship.
According to the agreement, the prize pool of the event will continue to increase and will top £3 million by 2020. The main prize for the PDC World Darts Championship winner will be £500,000 then. The deal was announced just before the 2016 World Darts Championship event that started on 17th December at the Alexandra Palace, London. (Though the tourney is called ‘2016 PDC World Darts Championship’, it stretches from December 2015 to 3rd January 2016.)

PDC chairman Barry Hearn was delighted to comment the World Darts Championship sponsor news. He said, “William Hill have been great supporters of the PDC in recent years and it’s fantastic that they will remain as title sponsors of the World Darts Championship for at least the next five years.”
He added, “The tournament has gone from strength to strength in recent years, and with record ticket sales and a record prize fund, the forthcoming William Hill World Darts Championship promises to be the biggest and best ever.”
William Hill executive James Henderson emphasized the tournament’s importance in the holiday calendar. He said, “The William Hill World Darts Championship is now one of the highlights of the sporting calendar, and one that takes centre stage over the festive period.”
